The whole world reads A. Chehov
On April 5, 2024, the Center for Russian Language and Culture at al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted an demo lesson on the topic: "Journey into Chekhov's World: Video Course on the Literary Works by the Great Writer , 'Thick and Thin' Strory Reading and Analysis". PhD student Li Duo (China) made the presentation of the video course material for the 2 d year foreign students (Turkmenistan). They watched excerpts from the film, made a plan, prepared a retelling and did the tasks on the text. Then Li Duo conducted an interactive game (quest).
After that the students continued the story in a modern interpretation. Each participant of the lesson characterized the characters. Professor S. Begalieva drew the students’ attention to the dialogue between two friends and its role in the story. The students identified the story climax and the author's attitude, who always advocates for respect for human dignity.
Thus, in "Thick and Thin" story the author's attitude towards the characters is not directly expressed; only the reader should draw conclusions. This aspect was particularly noted by the organizers of the lesson. The lesson was ended with the students’ summarizing of their findings and the writing task: a characterization of any character from the story by the following plan:
1. The character's role in the work.
2. The character's societal position.
3. Portrait description.
4. Speech characteristics.
5. Character traits.
