Discussion of the problem of gender equality and the role of women in public life in Kazakhstan

11 april, 2024

On April 10, 2024, at 13:00 p.m., 3-4th year students of the specialty "Biotechnology" with curator S.D. Atabayeva held a curatorial hour on the topic " Gender equality. The role of women in public life in Kazakhstan".

The purpose of the event:  To draw attention to the need to create a just and inclusive society in which everyone has equal rights and opportunities in all spheres of life, including education, health, work and political participation.

The students prepared a presentation. The presentation noted that gender equality is a concept referring to equal respect, rights and opportunities for all people, regardless of their gender identity or expression. It seeks to eliminate gender discrimination and provide equal opportunities for women and men. The high level of violence against women is a serious obstacle to achieving gender equality in Kazakhstan. A study by UN Women, conducted for the first time in Central Asia, showed that 17% of women between the ages of 18 and 75 had been physically or sexually abused by a partner, and 21% had been psychologically abused. One of the key achievements in solving the problem of gender inequality is the adoption and implementation of the National Strategy for Gender Equality for 2006-2016 and the new National Strategy for 2016-2026. These strategies aim to eliminate gender discrimination, increase women's access to education and health, support women entrepreneurs and strengthen their participation in political and public life.
