Statesman and public figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Political Sciences (1997). Imangali Tasmagambetov defended his doctoral thesis on "Social policy in transit political systems" at al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Imangali Tasmagambetov was born on December 9th, in 1956 in Novobogat village of Makhambet district of Guryev region.

Graduated from the Faculty of Natural Geography of the Ural Pedagogical Institute named A. Pushkin (1979).

After graduation, he began his career as a teacher of geography and biology at Makhambet secondary school in Guryev region.

An active young teacher was quickly noticed and invited to the position of head of the organizational department of the Makhambet district. The skills acquired in Komsomol, and then in party work, undoubtedly came in handy in his later career.

Imangali Tasmagambetov was elected the first secretary of the Central Committee of Kazakhstan in 1989. By the time Kazakhstan gained independence, he had gained solid administrative experience and established himself as an authoritative politician. Therefore, it is not surprising that he was on the team of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. A favorite phrase illustrating his principles of work belongs to Dostoevsky: “Politics is a great love for one's homeland”.

He proved himself to be a man ready for reforms, an important quality for the formation of a young Kazakhstan. His track record speaks for itself: Chairman of the State Committee for Youth Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Assistant of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Head of the Organizational and Control Department of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Major of Atyrau region; Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Secretary of State of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Major of Almaty city; Major of Astana city.

Since October 22nd, 2008 – Chairman of the Astana city branch of the "Nur Otan" party. Between 2014 and 2016 – he was Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 2016-2017 – Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 2017-2019 – Ambassador of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation.

No matter what position I. Tasmagambetov works in, he is active and proactive everywhere. Russian political scientists characterize him as a crisis management manager: “Tasmagambetov has repeatedly proved that he belongs to the type of people who always find themselves in their place and who skillfully combine political will, the ability to use everything new, force the old to serve, use accumulated corporate knowledge, and where necessary, national traits. It easily fits into any new system and functions in it no less efficiently than in the previous one”.

His active nature is manifested in both scientific and social work. He is the chairman of the Public Council for the implementation of the State Program “Cultural Heritage” in 2004-2006, Chairman of the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO. Member of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Honorary President of the Shooting Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Chairman of the Board of the International Foundation named Academic Alkey Margulan, member of the editorial Board of the articles of A.Margulana in 14 articles”, Chairman of the editorial Board of the monthly information and analytical bulletin “Policy”, member of the editorial board of the quarterly scientific journal “Eurasian Community”.

He is the author of books and several scientific papers and articles on the problems of socio-economic development and political science.

He is known as a connoisseur and connoisseur of ancient silver jewelry. A serious passion for collecting objects of applied art of the peoples of Central Asia speaks of a reverent attitude to the history of their country. He is the organizer of several international cultural expeditions to Mongolia, Western Kazakhstan and the Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation ("Caspian Sea: Oil and Culture"), etc. The result of one of them (2000) was the returning from Mongolia to Kazakhstan of a copy of the monument of the ancient Turkic monumental stone writing – “Kul-Tegin”.

Tasmagambetov was awarded the medals of “Parasat” (1998), "The First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev" (2004), the medal "10 years of Astana". He has received awards from the Russian Federation as: “The award of Friendship (2004) and the King Daniel of Moscow”.
