World-recognized scientist in the field of physical chemistry of polymers, Doctor of Chemical Sciences (1991), Professor (1994), Laureate of the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR in the field of science and technology (1987), winner of the AT Foundation "For Achievements in Science" (1995), Laureate of “Parasat” Prize as the most published and cited Kazakhstani author abroad (2010), Laureate of the K.I. Satpayev Prize “For the best scientific research in the field of natural sciences” (2019), awarded the breastplate of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan “For merits in the development of science of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2012), awarded by the commemorative medal “5 years of the Scientific and Technical Center of KazTransOil JSC” (2003), as honorary professor of Semey Shakarim University awarded by the “Shakarim” medal “For services to the University” (2011), the Anniversary medal “85 years of Satbayev University” (2019). He is the holder of the State Scientific Scholarship for scientists and specialists who have made outstanding contributions to the development of science and technology (2020). In 2022 the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan recognized him the “Best Scientist” for his significant contribution to the development of basic science.

According to publicly available database created by Stanford University (https://doi.org/10.17632/btchxktzyw.2.), Kudaibergenov S.E. has been involved into the list of top 2% world's leading scientists, and according to the Web of Science Clarivate Analytics database he is a world leader in the field of polyampholytes. This is exemplified by his single-authored and written in English fundamental monographs and review articles “Polyampholytes in Advanced Polymer Science and Emerging Technologies” (2024, CRC Press, USA), “Polyampholytes: Synthesis, Characterization and Application” (2002, Kluwer Academic/Plenum Publishers,  USA), “Recent Advances in the Study of Synthetic Polyampholytes in Solutions” (1999, Springer, Germany), “Polyampholytes” (2008, John Wiley @ Sons, USA), “Polyampholytes: Past, Present, Perspectives” (2021, Kazakhstan).

His single-authored and co-authored publications are amounted 20 monographs in Kazakh, Russian, Polish and English, more than 400 scientific publications, including 11 book chapters, 20 reviews and 150 scientific articles published in International peer-reviewed journals with a high impact factor. He is owner of 25 author certificates and patents, his H-index according to the Scopus and Web of Science database is 25.

Kudaibergenov S.E. was born May 20, 1951 in the village of Kargaly, Makanchi district, Semipalatinsk region. In 1973 he graduated from the chemistry faculty of Kazakh State University on the specialty – physical chemistry. In 1973-1980 worked in the laboratory of physical and chemical research methods and at the department of chemistry of high molecular compounds of Kazakh State University as an engineer and junior researcher. From 1981 to 1993 – junior, senior, leading researcher at the Institute of Chemical Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 1993-1994 – head of the chemistry department of the Research Institute of Ergonomics of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 1994-1996 – Deputy chief scientific secretary and head of the International relations department of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 1996-1998 – Professor of the high molecular compounds department of chemistry of al-Farabi Kazakh National University. In 1999-2001 organized and headed the department of chemistry and chemical technology at the Kazakh-American University. In 2001-2004 worked at the Scientific and Technical Center of “KazTransOil” JSC and the “Kazakh Institute of Oil and Gas” JSC as deputy director – head of the central laboratory. In 2005-2018 – part-time professor of the department of chemistry and expertise at Shakarim Semey State University. In 2008-2019 – head of the engineering profile laboratory of K.I. Satpayev Kazakh National Research Technical University.

In 1980 he has defended candidate dissertation in the specialized council of the Institute of Chemical Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, in 1991 defended doctoral dissertation in the specialized council of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University. In 1994 he obtained the title of professor of chemistry. In 1999 he organized and headed the private research “Institute of Polymer Materials and Technology” (www.ipmt.kz), which contributes to the development of polymer science in Kazakhstan and trains the high-qualified scientific personnel.

His scientific interest covers the development and implementation of specialty polymers in oil industry, petrochemistry, catalysis, nanotechnology, biotechnology, medicine and environmental protection. His polymer flooding technology for oil recovery has successfully pilot tested at “Turgai Petroleum” JSC at the “Kumkol” oilfield.

Kudaibergenov S.E. is multi-time winner of International grants from the Soros Foundation, INTAS-Kazakhstan, INTAS open competition, principal investigator of the NATO International Grant “Science for Peace and Security” and commercialization project “Development and implementation of polymer flooding technology to enhance oil recovery”, key participant in the European Union International Project “Horizon-2020”. In 1999-2024 the Institute of Polymer Materials and Technology headed by him successfully performed 24 International and Republican research projects.

He represented Kazakhstani polymer science at various International Conferences and Symposiums with plenary, oral and poster presentations in Belgium, Germany, Greece, Egypt, Spain, China, the Netherlands, Poland, USA, Singapore, Turkey, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, South Korea and Japan. As a visiting professor, he lectured at Hacettepe University (Turkey) and Waseda University (Japan), for 1 year he lectured and conducted scientific research at the Kwangju Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea), and trained 3 masters of science from the University of Montpellier (France) and Seoul University.

He is member of the dissertation council of al-Farabi Kazakh National University on nanomaterials and nanotechnology (2013-2021), chairman of the dissertation council of K.I. Satpayev Kazakh National Research Technical University on chemical technology of organic substances (2019-2021), member of the National Scientific Councils (2016-2018, 2019-2021), member of the editorial board of the journals “Eurasian Chemical Technology Journal”, “Eurasian Journal of Chemistry”, “International Journal of Formulation Science”, “Uzbek Polymer Journal”. He is guest editors of the MDPI special issue "Advanced Technologies in Polymer-Protected and Gel-Immobilized Nanocomposites" (2020, https://www.mdpi.com/journal/polymers/special_issues/adv_tech_poly_gel_nano) and the special issue "Specialty polymers in oil industry, bio-, nanotechnology and medicine" of the journal "Bulletin of Karaganda University, Chemical Series" (2022), member of the International Organizing Committees IUPAC (IUPAC) "MacroMolecular Complexes (MMC)" and "Macro- and Supramolecular Architectures and Materials" (MAM).

In 2021, a special issue of the journal “Polymers for Advanced Technologies” (2021, V.32, No.7, P.2633-2790, https://doi.org/10.1002/pat.4972) was dedicated to his 70th anniversary. The guest editor of this issue is his talented student – Professor V.V. Khutoryansky (University of Reading, England) who is also graduated from the al-Farabi Kazakh National University in 1999. The publication is preceded by a review article of Professor V.V. Khutoryansky (doi:10.1002/pat.5156) dedicated to research activity of Prof. S.E. Kudaibergenov and the issue contains 15 review and original articles by his friends, colleagues and students.

He was supervisor of 1 doctoral, 7 candidate and 5 PhD dissertations. He organized 8 International workshops, conferences and symposiums dedicated to specialty polymers with participation of scientists and specialists from near and far abroad.

Information about the scientific and pedagogical activities of S.E.
