"Alternative Investments in Kazakhstan"

20 april, 2024

Investment is one of the main factors of economic growth in any country, which corresponds to the objectives of achieving SDG 10, "Decent Work and Economic Growth." In this regard, the development of alternative forms of investment is significant for Kazakhstan's sustainable development and for increasing the financial literacy of the country's young generation.

The HSEB Department of Economics hosted a guest lecture on April 19. The speaker was Eszhan Birtanov, a 1997 graduate of KazNU and Chairman of the Board of Directors of TANSAR CAPITAL JSC - one of the oldest investment companies in Kazakhstan, operating in three areas: asset management, brokerage, and investment banking.

During the interactive lecture, the speaker, Mr. Eszhan Birtanov, was impressed by the students' active engagement and keen interest in the subject. He shared his knowledge about the private equity market in the world and Kazakhstan, as well as strategies of direct investment, hedge funds, profitability of private capital, and others. The lecture sparked a lively discussion, particularly on investments in cryptocurrency, a testament to the student's enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity.

In his address to the students, Mr. Birtanov not only shared his professional experience in the financial, banking, and investment spheres but also imparted valuable advice on successful leadership, self-efficacy, the importance of goal-setting in life, and the need to gain knowledge. His practical insights and the way he addressed the questions of interest to the young generation of economists made the lecture a genuinely enriching experience.
