Celebrating World Book and Copyright Day, we acknowledge the significant role of books in preserving and enhancing the human capital of the country. The Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, consistently emphasizes the importance of reading. This year, during the third meeting of the National Council in Atyrau, the President once again highlighted the importance of books, stating: "Above all, we must instill a love of reading in the youth. The most significant steps towards the progress of our nation are books. Therefore, we must consistently foster a high culture of reading in society."

With this goal in mind, on April 23, 2024, the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted the annual book festival "KITAPshow-2024," dedicated to World Book and Copyright Day, celebrated by millions of people in over a hundred countries around the world. Students from the 1st year of the "Library Information Systems" program and a senior lecturer from the Department of World History, Historiography, and Source Studies of the Faculty of History of al-Farabi Kazakh National University participated in the festival.

The aim of the festival was to increase reading activity, support interest in books and reading, awaken interest in fiction literature, and foster an individual's information and reading culture.

The festive event featured:

• An evening in memory of "Shaken Aimanov - Father of Kazakh Cinema," dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the prominent Kazakh actor, theater and film director, People's Artist Shaken Aimanov;
• An interactive event "Aesthetics of Intercultural Dialogue," conducted by the Representation of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty) with the participation of Russian writers;
• A master class on expressive reading "Syrlı Söz Siqyry";
• A literary evening "Kazakhstan - Iran: 'Nauryzname' Cultural Unity" (Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Almaty);
• OpenPlace USW – a community of Kazakhstani writers (an interactive platform for meeting authors, independent theaters, and book exchanges);
• Presentation of the popular science book "Kazakhstan's Meteorites" by Ildar Khalitov;
• A book fair featuring leading Kazakhstani publishers;
• An exhibition of decorative and applied art products.

The event will be a commendable initiative to enhance the love of reading among the youth and to foster spiritual values!
