Round table “Media as a tool of diplomacy”

On Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Faculty of International Relations, Academic Regional Resource Center for Information about the UN at the Faculty of International Relations of KazNU held a round table dedicated to World Press Freedom Day (May 3) and the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace (April 24).

Students of the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University actively took part in the round table and shared a presentation. 1st year students in three languages ​​(Kazakh, Russian, English) told the audience about the role of media communication in diplomacy, gave examples from history and answered questions asked by the guests.

The round table was opened with special speeches by Vlastimil Samek, Representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in Almaty and Delovarova Leila Fedorovna, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Director of the Academic Regional Resource Center for Information about the UN.

The event was attended by honored guests like Yerzhan Kalymbayuly, journalist, member of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan, General Director of “Alatay Aqparat” LLP, as well as Duman Anash, journalist, Deputy General Director - Head of the Almaty branch of “Kazakh Gazetteri”. In their speech, they broadly discussed the role of media in modern diplomacy, shared their experiences with students and gave advice related to their future professional activities.

During the event, participants had the opportunity to discuss many current issues related to media in the field of diplomacy and ask several questions to experts in these fields. All guests highlighted the relevance and significance of the topic of this round table. While supporting all the Sustainable Development Goals, special attention was paid to Goal 16 “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”.
