Problems of ecosystem restoration discussed
In Al-Farabi KazNU started an international project "Climate does not wait", dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the university and the 10th anniversary of gaining the status of the Global Hub of the UN program "Academic Impact" on sustainable development.
The large-scale project is organized jointly with the XCSS Association. It is attended by well-known Kazakhstani and foreign scientists, experts, prominent public figures, representatives of management and faculty, students of Al-Farabi KazNU and universities of Kazakhstan.
Speaking at the event, Yerkin Duisenov, Member of the Board - Vice-Rector for Operations, noted the importance of this international project.
"Al-Farabi KazNU, working in partnership with the government, sustainability leaders and public foundations, is exemplary in its institutional response to environmental and climate emergencies, as confirmed by QS Sustainability indicators. We are committed to playing an important role in protecting, restoring and enhancing nature," emphasized the Vice-Chancellor.
The event was also addressed by: Consul General of France in Almaty Fabrice Neveu, President of XCSS-cross country SKIING SAND Association Estelle Payen, Ambassador of Friendship of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan in France Malgorzata Touar, Head of the sub-regional office of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) for Central Asia Aidai Kurmanova and others.
The guests of honor visited the Kazakhstan-China Laboratory "Remote Sensing Technology and Applications" and the Scientific Center "Sustainable Development and Environmental Management".
In the rich program of the event: the exhibition "Cultures and traditions: pillars of sustainable development in Kazakhstan", master classes, presentation of the exhibition of the center of craftsmen "Qazaq-Oner", sports and ecological tour on the big singing barchan of the national park "Altyn-Emel" and scientific-practical conference "Climate does not wait" and others.
It should be noted that the project "Climate does not wait", supported by the Ambassador of Friendship of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan in France Malgorzata Touar, is part of the UN decade on ecosystem restoration. Association XCSS (cross country SKIING SAND) - officially recognized by the UN Climate Change Secretariat as a watchdog organization. The project aims to promote ecotourism and to demonstrate the usefulness of remote areas in adapting to climate change.
