KazNU branch to open in Omsk

A branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will open in the Russian Federation on the basis of F.M. Dostoevsky Omsk State University.

 

This was achieved during the meeting of the Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebaev with the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky and the Governor of Omsk region Vitaly Khotsenko.

Today, the heads of the two universities signed an agreement on the establishment and operation of a branch of KazNU on the basis of Omsk State University. This is the first Kazakhstani branch on the territory of the Russian Federation, which will train specialists for the two countries in the field of international law, customs and philology.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Ivan Krott, Deputy Chairman of the Government, Minister of Education of the Omsk Region, Kerim Kozhamberdiev, Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Omsk, Sergey Zamyatin, Rector of Omsk State University named after F.M. Dostoevsky, and representatives of universities of Kazakhstan and Russia.

Having welcomed the guests, the Governor of Omsk region Vitaly Khotsenko told about the relations of the region with the cities of Kazakhstan in different sectors. In his speech he also assured that the Omsk region administration will provide great support to the branch of KazNU on the basis of OmSU.

Rector of KazNU thanked the governor for warm reception and told about plans of realization of the given project. In addition, Zhanseit Tuimebaev shared the experience of opening a branch of KazNU abroad.

“Integrating into the world scientific and educational space, KazNU increases its recognizability and expands its network through the opening of its branches. Today branches of the leading higher education institution of Kazakhstan are opened in Istanbul (Turkey) and Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). Now will open in Omsk (Russia), it will be the third branch of the Kazakh National University. Also on the basis of KazNU successfully conducts its educational activities branch of MEPhI, on such specialties as: “Nuclear Power Engineering and Technology” and “Informatics and Computer Science”. In addition, since October 12, 2023 the branch of the North-West Polytechnic University of the People's Republic of China has been functioning", - said the rector of KazNU.

In his speech Zhanseit Tuimebaev also noted that, to begin with will be launched such educational programs as international law, customs, two foreign languages. Graduates of these specialties will work to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

In turn, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Science emphasized that this is a landmark event for the two countries. He noted that he would assist in recognizing the license of KazNU to conduct educational and scientific activities in the territory of the Russian Federation. In addition, Konstantin Mogilevsky shared the plan for the development of branches of Russian universities in Kazakhstan.

During the meeting the parties also discussed the issues of providing premises for the educational activities of KazNU, providing students with dormitory.

It should be reminded that OmSU is a multifunctional educational, research, cultural and educational complex, which provides professional training and retraining in a wide range of areas on the basis of promising scientific projects. Omsk State University named after F.M. Dostoevsky was founded in 1973. As of today 1056 teachers and employees work in the higher educational institution, 5740 students study there. The University has 9 faculties.
