On July 27, 2024, as part of the implementation of SDGs 12 and 13, senior lecturers of Meteorology and Hydrology Department participated in the field seminar "Field Day" on the topic of "Sustainable Agricultural Development: Effective and Safe Management of Water Resources," organized by the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The event addressed one of the country’s most pressing issues – the shortage of water resources and its impact on agriculture.
Participants included the President of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the First Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Vice Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, akims of Almaty and Zhambyl regions, the Deputy Akim of the Jetisu district, leaders of research institutes in the fields of agriculture and water management, as well as prominent scientists and specialists.
During the scientific-practical seminar, key causes of water scarcity, its impact on the national economy and food security, and potential solutions were discussed. The importance of water-saving technologies, their role in water conservation, and productivity enhancement as a way to address water shortage issues were also highlighted.
The seminar provided an opportunity for experience and knowledge exchange and facilitated discussions on effective management of water resources in agriculture.
