A round table dedicated to the International Day against Nuclear Tests was held at the Faculty of International Relations of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The event was organized jointly with the Representative Office of the UN Department of Global Communications in Almaty, as well as the public foundation “Polygon 29 August”.

Opening the roundtable, Leila Delovarova, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, noted that this is a very important event dedicated to the Day of Action against Nuclear Tests.
“This date is important for all generations. Kazakhstan is one of the countries most affected by nuclear weapons testing in the world. It was on this day, August 29, 1989, that the world's largest nuclear test site in Semey was officially closed,” Leila Fyodorovna said. - This day is significant not only for the history of Kazakhstan, but also for the whole world. It is no coincidence that the date is included in the UN calendar. The young generation of diplomats should realize its significance and work to solve problems related to nuclear tests in the world”.
The international roundtable was held in an academic atmosphere and ended with a rich discussion on global disarmament and assessment of Kazakhstan's role in promoting global anti-nuclear initiatives of Kazakhstan.
The organizers highlighted the Roundtable's connection to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including the following: protecting the environment (SDGs 14 and 15), effectively managing resources and combating climate change (SDG 13), promoting justice and the rule of law (SDG 16), and partnerships (SDG 17) to achieve common goals.
