An intellectual contest on the topic of nuclear power plants was held
An intellectual contest OPEN-AIR on the topic ‘Nuclear Power Innovations and Solutions’ was held at Al-Farabi KazNU.
The main objective of the competition organised by the Faculty of Journalism is to develop critical thinking skills and increase the level of knowledge of young people about nuclear safety, environmental aspects of NPP construction in Kazakhstan and the specifics of nuclear power.
‘Today's competition is aimed at testing young people's knowledge of the system of nuclear energy functioning and its applications, how it affects the world, what significance it has for the future,’ said Kuralay Kurman, a fourth-year journalism student.
The game, in which more than 80 students took part, consisted of four main stages. At the first stage, the participants divided into groups and defined the main concepts of nuclear energy, at the second stage they tested their knowledge of the history of the world's nuclear power plants and at the third stage they answered the question of what issues a nuclear power plant would help solve in the country. At the final stage, students discussed in detail the benefits and risks of building a power plant and shared their thoughts.
