Students of KazNU conquered the peak of Kumbel
This weekend, September 29, as part of the celebration of the International Tourism Day, the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism organized a traditional ascent to the peak of Kumbel (3200 m above sea level), which is part of the chain of nearby mountain peaks of the Zailiysky Alatau.
This year, the annual ascent to one of the popular peaks among outdoor enthusiasts was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Al-Farabi KazNU, as well as within the framework of achieving the goals of sustainable development, namely, attracting and popularizing an active and healthy lifestyle among young people and university employees. This event was organized jointly with the mountaineering section "Burevestnik" (head Zhdanov V.V), with the support of the Public Association of the local trade union "Parasat" of employees of the Al-Farabi KazNU.
More than 100 people took part in this event, most of whom are students and trainees of the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management, curators-advisers (Beisakhmet A.A., Adilbay B.S., Kaliyeva A.B., Tokenova Zh. from the Faculty of Geography and Environmental sciences) kept their students’ company, employees and workers of the rector's office (Department of social development and work with youth – Esimova. Zh.D., Department of International Cooperation and Internationalization - Abdiman Zh., Department of Academic Affairs - Musinova A.A.) also supported the youth in conquering the summit and improving their health. Of the total number, 45 participants managed to conquer the summit of Kumbel itself, for which they were awarded the conqueror badge "Kumbel-2024". High professionalism and safety organization of the ascent were ensured by experienced instructors from among the members of the mountaineering section "Burevestnik".
During the route, the dean of the faculty Aktymbaeva A.S. noted the high activity of young people, an increase in the number of participants compared to previous years. Special gratitude was expressed to the university management for the support in organizing this event by the main leader of the hike, an honored tourism instructor, associated professor of Department of Recreational geography and Tourism Artemyev A.M. Mountain walking helps to improve health and increase physical activity, which is in line with the goals of sustainable development aimed at ensuring a healthy lifestyle. This type of activity also helps to preserve natural ecosystems, as young people become more aware of the need to protect the environment.
