KazNU held a conference dedicated to the statesman Nurtas Ondasynov
The scientific-practical conference "History and Personality: Intellectual and Value Orientations" dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the scientist-researcher, outstanding state and public figure, who headed the government in 1938-51, was held at the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi.
The event was attended by Malik Otarbayev, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mamai Akhetov, Advisor to the Mayor of Almaty, Murat Zhurinov, state and public figure, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Chairman of the Board - Rector of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi. Al-Farabi Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Deputy Chairman of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan Galym Kalibekuly, scientist-historian, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan Mambet Koigeldiev, Chairman of the Public Fund "Nurtas Ondasynov" Serik Taukebaev, statesman, diplomat Ikram Adyrbekov. Followers of Nurtas Ondasynov, linguists, scientists, teachers and young people of the university also took part in the event.
At the conference Malik Otarbayev read out a congratulatory letter from the Head of State Kasym-Jomart Tokayev. The President's letter states that Nurtas Ondasynov is a historical figure who made a great contribution to strengthening the statehood of the country. It was also noted that Nurtas Ondibayevich in difficult times realised many large-scale initiatives and made changes in the field of science, education and culture.
‘Nurtas Ondasynov put the interests of the people above everything. In difficult times, he made a great contribution to the development of the country and the nation. He emphasised patriotic education of citizens and prosperity of Kazakh society. In addition, Nurtas Ondasynov's explanatory dictionaries in the field of oriental studies, still enjoy success among many generations,’ the letter reads.
A talented son of the Kazakh people, Nurtas Dandibaevich was born on 26 October 1904 in the Turkestan region. He began his professional career in 1927-28 as a statistician in the Kyzylorda water economy. From 1938 to 1951 he headed the government of Kazakhstan and made a significant contribution to the country's prosperity. In 1954-55 he was Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of Kazakhstan. He drafted laws that brought about positive changes in the country. He himself oversaw the development of culture and the arts. In addition, Nurtas Ondasynov initiated the construction of the Karaganda metallurgy, the Moyinty-Shu railway. In 1955-62, as head of the Guryev (Atyrau) region, he played a special role in the formation of Kazakhstan as a future oil power. Nurtas Ondasynov was awarded 3 orders of Lenin and 2 orders of the 'Red Banner of Labour', many medals and certificates of honour.
During the event, a congratulatory letter from the Akim of the city of Almaty, Yerbolat Dosayev, was read out. The Akim noted the inestimable merits of Nurtas Ondasynov in the development of science. Nurtas Ondasynov is an outstanding statesman and public figure, a true intellectual. Propaganda of the heritage of great people is a noble cause. Today's event, which is being held in the city of Almaty, proves this", - the letter reads.
In turn, the rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev emphasised that Nurtas Ondasynov brought the governance of the state to a new level. ‘Nurtas Ondibaevich in 1938-51 in one of the most difficult and complex periods in the history of the country with honour and dignity served as Chairman of the Government of the Kazakh SSR. At that time, many universities and institutes of foreign languages, physical education, polytechnic and technological institutes were opened, and the faculties of the medical institute were expanded. The National Academy of Sciences was founded, the Kazakh National Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Abay. History is created by personalities. Nurtas Ondasynov, who tirelessly served for the future of his country, made a special contribution to the training of national personnel and formed his own school. His instructive life is an example for future generations. The name of Nurtas Ondibayevich will always live together with his native people’, - said the rector of the university Zhanseit Tuimebayev.
In addition, the event was addressed by state and public figures, scientists Murat Zhurinov, Galym Kalibekuly, Mambet Koigeldiev, Serik Taukebayev, Sabit Shildebay, Bolat Saylan, Ikram Adyrbekov, Gulsim Orazalieva and others, who noted the personal and professional qualities of Nurtas Ondasynov, the value of his rich heritage for future generations.
