The Faculty of Oriental Studies participated in a literary and musical evening dedicated to the 155th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as part of the SDG "Reducing Inequality"
On October 2, 2024, a literary and musical evening dedicated to the 155th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was held in the N. Dauletova Hall of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The event was organized with the support of the National Library of Kazakhstan, the Consulate General of India in Almaty, and the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi KazNU. It took place within the framework of Sustainable Development Goal — “Reducing Inequality,” highlighting Gandhi's contribution to the struggle for equality and justice.
The evening began with welcoming speeches that emphasized the importance of Gandhi's legacy in achieving equal rights for all people. The participants delivered presentations on the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi, his role in the fight for India's independence, and his philosophy of non-violence as a means of achieving justice.
A book and illustrative exhibition titled "My Life – My Message" was also organized at the event, featuring materials in Kazakh, Russian, English, and Hindi languages.
The program concluded with musical and poetic performances dedicated to Gandhi's life and ideas by students and schoolchildren. The event underscored the relevance of Gandhi's ideas in the modern world and his lasting influence on the movement for human rights and the reduction of inequality.
