Opening of the Auditorium Named After Dr. Galina Geldyeva
In the context of achieving "SDG-4 Quality Education" on October 29, 2024, a ceremonial opening of Auditorium No. 106, named in honor of Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Galina Viktorovna Geldyeva, was held at the Department of Geography, Land Management and Cadastre, Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of KazNU named after al-Farabi.
Professor Geldyeva, renowned both domestically and internationally, made a significant contribution to the fields of geography and geoecology in Kazakhstan. She was awarded honorary diplomas from the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan for her work in landscape analysis methods, environmental protection standards, and participation in international projects, including studies on the dried-up lands of the Aral Sea, as well as her contributions to ecotourism development, landscape mapping, and combating desertification.
This event, held in commemoration of the 85th anniversary of the distinguished scientist, brought together members of the academic community, students, and university staff to honor Professor Geldyeva's contributions to geographical science and education. Distinguished guests present at the ceremony included:
- Medeu Rakhmetullayevich — Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor, Academician of NAS RK, Chairman of the Board of JSC "Institute of Geography and Water Safety";
- Boris Geldyev — General Director of LLP "CRS and GIS 'Terra'", Candidate of Geographical Sciences, son of Galina Viktorovna, who initiated the opening of the auditorium and made an invaluable contribution to organizing the event;
- Larisa Veselova – Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics, Al-Farabi KazNU;
- Aizhan Skakova – Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Ecological Expert of the Public Chamber under the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- Evgenia Sutula – General Director of LLP "Terra Exploration."
Medeu Akhmetkal, Larisa Veselova, Aizhan Skakova, and Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences Aliya Aktymbayeva addressed the attendees with welcoming speeches. The faculty also joined in paying respect to Professor Geldyeva’s legacy in advancing the department and the science. The inauguration of this named auditorium serves as a symbol of the enduring memory of Professor Geldyeva’s scientific achievements and educational legacy.
Auditorium No. 106 will now serve as an educational and inspirational space for students and young scientists, motivating them to contribute to the development of national science and continue Professor Geldyeva’s scientific path.
