An inspiring visit to the world of tactile books and audio stories!
Within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals №17. Partnership for Sustainable Development
Yesterday, 1st-year students of "Library Science" plunged into the amazing world of the Republican Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired!
The Open Day gave us not only a lot of impressions, but also invaluable experience. The library staff with great warmth guided us through all the departments, telling in detail about the specifics of working with literature adapted for people with visual impairments.
We got acquainted with:
- The Braille Book Fund: We held real books printed in Braille in our hands and learned about the intricacies of their creation and storage.
- The Sound Recording Studio: We saw how audiobooks are created and even tried ourselves as readers!
- The Department of Typhlotechnology: We evaluated modern devices that help blind people read, write and receive information from the Internet.
But most importantly, we saw the results of the work of the library visitors! The exhibition of creative works made by blind and visually impaired people amazed us with its beauty and depth. Paintings, embroidery, sculptures - all this testifies to the incredible strength of spirit and thirst for life!
This visit was a real lesson for us in professionalism, attention to people and boundless love for books. We were convinced that the library is not just a repository of information, but a real center of communication, creativity and support for everyone, regardless of their abilities!
