SDG-4.THE PECULIARITIES OF CREATING SCHOOL TEXTBOOK

Representatives of the publishing firm «Almatykitap» hosted a master class «Features of preparing school textbooks» at the department of publishing, editing, and design art of the Faculty of Journalism, KazNU named after Al-Farabi.

Vice President of «Almatykitap» publishing house, Asima Ryskulbekova, spoke about the formation of the publishing house, emphasizing its main mission: «The book is the main tool of education». In addition to presenting special collections and serial editions, she talked about the crucial subject of the shift to electronic formats, pointing out that the electronic textbook library's «TopIQ.kz» platform has already drawn around two million users.

Head of the fiction department, Bulan Zhambyl, shared with the audience his knowledge of the importance of the editor in the publishing process, especially in the field of fiction. He pointed out that in order to succeed, an editor must become proficient in five essential areas, such as computer programming, in-depth text analysis and a solid command of the Kazakh language. The publishing industry's translation problems were also brought up. He added there is a great need for translators who can accurately understand works of art and science.

The students asked a lot of questions and participated fully in the conversation. For their content and relevant questions, they were awarded branded books recently presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Students who demonstrated outstanding communication abilities were invited to «Almatykitap» publishing house for an internship at the conclusion of the master class. It was also revealed that students as well as teachers would be eligible to enter the contest, which is scheduled to coincide with the publishing house's 25th anniversary. The winners will receive special awards.
