SDG-4. JOURNALISM EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: SEARCHES AND FAILURES

The International Scientific and Practical Conference "Models of Teaching International Journalism for Sustainable Development" (MTIJ), organized by the UNESCO Department of Journalism and Communications in honor of the 90th anniversary of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with the support of the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty, was held for the eighth time this year. The conference was opened by Jamila Aitzhanova, Vice-rector for Scientific and Innovative Activities of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Almasha Arenova, Head of the Department of Political Cooperation of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty, congratulated the flagship of national education and science, the Kazakh National University, on its 90–year achievements and thanked for the contribution to the development of education in the country. Naming the main elements of sustainable development, he stressed the importance of communication and education. He noted that this conference is a platform for discussing important issues of journalistic education, sharing experiences, identifying risks and problems, and identifying ways to solve them. The head of the UN Information Office in Kazakhstan, representative of the UN Department of Global Communications Vlastimil Samek noted that Al-Farabi Kazakh National University marks the 10th anniversary of the leadership of the UN Global hub for sustainable development "Academic Influence" UNAI, and expressed confidence that there will be many bright and interesting ideas at this meeting.

Sergey Karpov, specialist of the Communications and Information Department of the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty, on behalf of the regional office, expressed gratitude for the joint activities of the department with the International Program for the Development of communications on Sustainable Development Goals 4.7., 16.10. The specialist of the regional office noted the special contribution of the conference to support national educational platforms: "The national Journalism platform, developed on the basis of the two previous ones The department's projects are ongoing and developing in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. They use the developments of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University, UNESCO resources," the UNESCO journalistic educational series said. This includes courses on climate change, journalism security, and gender equality developed by the UNESCO Department of Journalism and Communications. Director of the Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhansai Isaeva noted that the conference was organized in honor of the 90th anniversary of the National University and the 10th anniversary of the UN global hub for sustainable development UNAI "Academic Influence". "Today's dialogue is multifaceted, journalistic negotiations at the international level emphasize the diplomatic nature of this meeting," he said. Chairman of the Almaty Civic Alliance, member of the Public Council of Almaty Kayyrzhan Abdykhalykov focused on the contribution of civil society to achieving Sustainable Development Goals and suggested "Bloggers and opinion leaders will be a powerful tool for spreading information if they have thousands of subscribers. Therefore, it is necessary to develop ethical standards and principles together with the academic community." Ilya Bykov, Professor of the Higher School of Journalism and Mass Communications of St. Petersburg State University, PhD, political scientist, introduced the research of artificial intelligence technologies in education.

Feng Wu, a professor at the School of New Media Journalism at Xi'an Jiaotong University, who specially arrived at the conference from China, brought a new status of journalism education in China to the report. In an era of global interconnection of acute environmental and social problems, as now, the role of journalism in the field of sustainable development was not so significant. The founder of Avrupa Media Holding (UK), journalist Watan described several models of teaching international journalism for sustainable development, naming the important role of the academic community in training professionals in this area. Journalist Yusuf Jinal, founder of the Brussels-based Inter-Media Public Foundation (Turkey), shared his thoughts on conducting practical training for university students, supporting scientific internships for undergraduates and doctoral students. Associate Professor of Penza State University, PhD Galina Zueva (Russia), editor-in-chief of the editorial office of the Public TV Channel "Moldova-1" Lyudmila Barba (Republic of Moldova) touched upon topical issues of training professional journalists. During the meeting, with the support of the International Program for the Development of Communication (IPDS) of the UNESCO Department of Journalism and Communications, a presentation of the "Golden middle of the new UNESCO project" on the implementation of the project "Region-Central Asia: journalistic education on migration issues" was held.
