«Rights to Achieve Equality and a Sustainable Future»
On November 20, 2024, first-year students from the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies at the Faculty of Philology of Farabi Kazakh National University organized an event on the topic "Rights to Achieve Equality and a Sustainable Future" within the framework of SDG 16: "Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions". During the event, students discussed the importance of ensuring equality, rights, and a sustainable future, as well as the role of universities and youth organizations in supporting these values.
The event was an important step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and served as a platform for students to express their views on key contemporary issues, such as peace, justice, and the development of strong institutions. Students presented their research and projects highlighting the role of universities in supporting these goals and the opportunities for students and faculty to actively engage in public life and participate in decision-making processes related to both the internal and external policies of the university.
Farabi Kazakh National University recognizes the independent student union, which actively participates in organizing various events, supports students' rights, and encourages their involvement in the social and cultural life of the university. The university has developed internal procedures aimed at identifying and engaging with local stakeholders, including local authorities, civil society organizations, and other institutions. This interaction helps implement best practices and address pressing social issues. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University provides its faculty and students with the freedom to choose research topics, as well as guarantees the right to publicly express opinions and teach in their area of scientific interest. The university creates a neutral and safe platform for discussing various political and social issues, where representatives of different viewpoints can engage in open and honest discussions.
The event organized by first-year students provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the most important issues of our time and demonstrated the active role of students in promoting the values of peace, justice, and strong institutions in society.
