The UNESCO Convention and Kazakhstan's Cultural Heritage: A Lecture by S.A. Ashimova

As part of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 17 "Partnerships for the Goals," staff members of the Abish Kekilbayev Mangystau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore are undergoing scientific internships and professional development at the Department of Archaeology, Ethnology, and Museology of the Faculty of History at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. During the internship, S.A. Ashimova, the First Deputy Director of the UNESCO Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures and a member of the National Commission for Intangible Cultural Heritage, delivered a lecture on "Kazakhstan's Ratification of the UNESCO Convention."

In her lecture, S.A. Ashimova explained Kazakhstan's collaboration with UNESCO and the significance of the convention in preserving and developing cultural heritage. She highlighted Kazakhstan's efforts to protect its intangible cultural heritage at the international level, including the preservation of national traditions, their introduction into scientific discourse, and their promotion among younger generations. She also shared insights into the crucial role of collaboration in the field of cultural heritage, which fosters understanding and mutual respect between cultures.

This lecture provided internship participants with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the significant steps taken by Kazakhstan in developing cultural heritage at the international level, as well as to acquire new ideas for protecting and preserving cultural heritage.
