A young scientist from KazNU won a one-year internship at Xi’an University

14 january, 2025

First-year doctoral student of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at KazNU, Damir Nusipov, has been accepted for a one-year internship at Xi’an University of Science and Technology

Earlier, based on an agreement between two universities, the leaders of the young scientist initiative were appointed: PhD Kuanysh Tastambek from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and professor Liu Xiangrong from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China.

It is worth noting that last year, a delegation led by the Chairman of the Board and Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Zhansait Tuimebayev, participated in the international scientific symposium of Kazakhstani and Chinese universities at the invitation of the Vice Minister of Education of China. During this large-scale event, 40 of the best scientific and innovative projects by scientists from KazNU were presented at a special exhibition.

As a result of the agreements reached, at the invitation of professor Liu Xiangrong, head of the "Coal Biotransformation" laboratory at Xi'an University of Science and Technology, Damir Nussipov, a first-year PhD student from the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at KazNU, completed a scientific internship as part of his doctoral dissertation titled "Biological Modification of Coal: Process and Product." The young scientist from Kazakhstan conducted research for the first time in the laboratory of Xi'an University.

Recently, Damir Nussipov participated in the 10th Conference on "The Development of Physical Chemistry in Shaanxi Province" in Xi'an. The conference focused on strengthening interdisciplinary connections and integrating physical chemistry with other areas of science, expanding scientific approaches, and introducing innovative research methods. The young scientist from KazNU became the first Kazakhstani and international PhD student to present at this conference. His participation showcased the high readiness of Kazakhstani scientists and their active involvement in the international scientific community.

It is worth noting that the scientists from the International Laboratory of Applied Microbiology at KazNU, established based on the Kazakh-German-Chinese partnership in collaboration with the researchers from the "Coal Biotransformation" laboratory at Xi'an University of Science and Technology, China, have won an international project grant for 2025. As part of the project, scientists from KazNU and Xi'an Universities will conduct joint scientific research and organize bilateral internships for undergraduates, master's students, and PhD students. They will also study low-quality coals from Kazakhstan and China and identify ways to reduce their harmful impact on the environment and ecology. Damir Nussipov will also participate in this project. He has received a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of the country's scientific and innovative potential, thanks to the agreements reached between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and higher educational institutions in China.
