24 january, 2025

On January 24, 2025, the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the event “Human Health Is the Wealth of Society,” dedicated to Sustainable Development Goal 3 — “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.” The event aimed to foster students’ holistic understanding of health as a key resource for individual and societal development, raise awareness of physical, mental, and social well-being, and promote responsibility for maintaining and improving health in the context of contemporary national and global public health challenges.

The event partner was Kamila Tashmagambetova, MSc student and public health researcher at the University of Glasgow (United Kingdom), who participated online as an invited researcher.

The program included the following activities:

- an interactive lecture and discussion on the core components of health — physical, mental, and social — and the factors influencing their preservation within academic and social environments;

- an exploration of disease prevention, healthy behavior formation, and the role of mental well-being and social support in promoting youth health;

- an online presentation by the invited researcher introducing international public health experience, using Scotland as an example, and comparing it with the national context of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The event brought together representatives of the academic community and students:

- students of the Neuroscience educational program - 7 participants;

- KazNU faculty members - 1 participant;

- external expert - 1 participant.

The event contributed to the development of a conscious attitude toward personal health, strengthened responsibility for health preservation, and enhanced understanding of the role of prevention and scientific research in improving health at both individual and societal levels. Participants expanded their knowledge of SDG 3 and current public health issues, while the faculty strengthened international academic cooperation, reaffirming the university’s commitment to sustainable development principles.
