SDG 4 "Quality education" Winter Scientific School on "Human rights in the modern world: new challenges"

The Annual Winter Scientific School on "Human Rights in the modern world" has started working at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.: new challenges" for students of foreign universities. The organizer is the Department of Theory and History of State and Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The date of the event is from February 11 to February 22, 2025.
The Winter School is held as part of the implementation of SDG 4 "Quality education", proclaimed by the United Nations to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities.
The Winter Science School is held for the third year. This year, the winter school is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Law of the Al–Farabi Kazakh National University.
The purpose of the winter school is to teach students of foreign universities and anyone interested in the basics of law, analyze new threats to the realization of human rights, and gain skills in using legal knowledge in practice.
During the training at the Farabi Winter Scientific School, it is planned to consider a wide range of issues of the theory of law and the state, international law, personal data protection, migration law, the introduction of digital law into society, the basics of artificial intelligence, and some issues of civil law.
Classes at the winter school are conducted by leading scientists of Kazakhstan, representatives of government agencies of the Republic of Kazakhstan and civil society, university professors. After graduation from the winter scientific school, all participants will receive a 72-hour certificate.
On the first day, February 11, 2025, 64 students from foreign universities took part.
The first lesson was conducted by Doctor of Law, professor Ibrayeva A.S. The features and role of the rule of law in the implementation of the protection and enforcement of human rights, global initiatives, the role of civil society and human rights organizations were considered. Professor Ibrayeva A.S. emphasized that new technologies, environmental, sanitary and epidemiological changes create new threats to human rights. Professor Ibrayeva A.S. highlighted the problems of protecting women's rights, the role of the state and positive changes in the country in the implementation and protection of women's rights.
S.B. Akhmetova, a doctoral student at the Faculty of Law of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, conducted the second lesson on "International aspects of personal data protection". The issues of personal data protection as a fundamental right to personal integrity and respect for privacy, as well as the role of the state in ensuring and protecting this right were discussed. Doctoral student Akhmetova S.B. She stressed that the modern development of international electronic commerce and interaction on social networks, as well as the ongoing data exchange, requires enhanced protection from States, compliance with internationally recognized principles of personal data protection, perfect national legislation and an adequate protection regime equivalent to European requirements.
Classes at the winter school will continue for two weeks.
