Exhibition "Gustav Klimt and René Magritte: Awakened Paintings" in the Framework of the Sustainable Development Goal – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

17 february, 2025

On February 17, 2025, undergraduates took part in the unique multimedia exhibition "Gustav Klimt and Rene Magritte. Awakened Paintings", organized by the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

This event became an important part of the educational process for first-year master’s students specializing in "7M03105 – Cultural Anthropology", expanding their knowledge in the field of art studies.

The exhibition was organized under the guidance of Candidate of Philosophical Sciences A. O. Omirbekova, pedagogical practice supervisor Candidate of Philosophical Sciences M. B. Alikbayeva, and first-year doctoral student A. S. Oralkul. The event provided students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of symbolism, rituals, and cultural codes in art within the framework of the course "Anthropological Study of Myths, Rituals, and Symbols."

The exhibition featured:

- A projection display of over 150 works by Klimt and Magritte;

- An immersive musical accompaniment that allowed visitors to experience the unique style of each artwork;

- An interactive multimedia format that created the illusion of being inside the paintings;

- Fascinating insights into the lives and works of Klimt and Magritte, including the history behind their most famous masterpieces.

Through this exhibition, the master’s students not only explored works of art but also gained a deeper understanding of their cultural, philosophical, and anthropological significance. This extraordinary event, held at the Lumiere-Hall exhibition space, opened new horizons at the intersection of art and education.
