"Ornaments are a reflection of our history"

On February 18, 2025, the senior lecturer Aitmukhanbetova Ainur Serikbaikyzy, together with the 1st year PhD students Zh. Burkitbayeva and A. Seisebayev held an advisory hour for the students of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies. The topic of the event was "Ornaments are a reflection of our history". The students learnt about the history and the meanings of Kazakh ornaments, discussed their role and significance in the spiritual life of the Kazakh people, as well as their educational value. The students not only explored the symbolism of ornaments, but also shared proverbs and sayings, read a fairy tale, solved a crossword puzzle and created their own applications. During the event, they recited poem "Oyular" by Fariza Ongarsynova, emphasizing the connection between ornamental art and Kazakh poetry. When the students were received new information about the role of contemporary design, architecture and brand identity, they emphasized the importance of national art in understanding their cultural background.
