Students of the Faculty of International Relations organized quiz on sustainable development and debate on SDG 7

On March 13, 2025, third-year students from the English Department of the Faculty of International Relations conducted a quiz on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This quiz served as both an assessment of existing knowledge and a source of new information, laying the groundwork for the next phase of the event and setting the tone for a deeper exploration of sustainable development practices.
In the second phase, structured debates and substantive discussions took place, focusing on SDG 7 - ensuring access to affordable and clean energy—with a special emphasis on Kazakhstan and the Central Asian region. The students examined both the significant obstacles and the opportunities in the pursuit of a green economy. They critically addressed issues such as outdated infrastructure, reliance on fossil fuels, and financial constraints that hinder progress. They also recognized the potential for developing the renewable energy sector in Kazakhstan and proposed innovative solutions, demonstrating that a creative and well-informed approach is essential for overcoming systemic barriers.
The dialogue was marked by an honest reflection of the gap between the ambitious sustainable development goals and current policies. This discussion underscored the importance of critical debate in advancing sustainable development.
The discussion served not only as an educational platform but also as a compelling call to action for the academic community and policymakers, affirming that genuine progress requires a critical evaluation of the situation and the active involvement of the next generation—those who will ultimately drive the transformation toward a more sustainable future.
The event was held as part of the Advisor’s Hour.
