 On March 17, 2025, the Department of sociology and social work at al-Farabi KazNU hosted a guest online lecture on the topic «Anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policy: rules, responsibility, protection». The lecture was delivered by Nurzhamal Iminova, development director of the NGO «Shyrak» association of women with disabilities, a human rights, gender equality, and inclusion expert, a national consultant for UN Women on civil society engagement, and an OSCE expert on human dimension issues.

During the lecture, key issues related to harassment and gender discrimination were discussed. The speaker provided an analysis of the international and national context of regulations addressing these issues, highlighted law enforcement practices, and reviewed legislative initiatives in Kazakhstan. Participants also learned about real cases that have gained widespread public attention and reviewed relevant statistics provided by the UN and the European Union.

The lecture was conducted in an interactive format, allowing participants to actively engage in discussions. The discussion generated significant interest among the audience, emphasizing the importance of this topic and the need for continued efforts in this area.

The event was organized by first-year doctoral students of the «Sociology» and «Social Work» programs as part of their teaching practice. Academic supervisor Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Professor N.U. Shedenova. Such lectures contribute to raising awareness among students, faculty, and social work professionals about mechanisms for combating discrimination and violence while promoting a safe educational and workplace environment.
