Raising students' intercultural awareness on the Day of Culture and National Traditions

On the Day of Culture and National Traditions on March 16, 2025, as part of the implementation of SDG 4 "Quality of education", 1st-year students of the educational program "6B05202 - Ecology" visited the National Russian Drama Theater named after M. Lermontov. The event was organized by the group's advisors, senior teachers of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development, O. Zubova and B. Tussupova.
The students watched the performance "Motley Stories" based on the stories of Russian writer A. Chekhov. Although the actions in the stories take place in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the topics raised by Chekhov remain relevant. These are issues of human relationships, loneliness, the search for meaning in life, love, disappointments, and social problems. Chekhov created lively, multifaceted characters that are not always unambiguous. Their internal conflicts and the search for justice can be close to many young people who are in the process of self-determination.
In general, visiting the theater contributes to the development of critical thinking, broadening the horizons and cultural enrichment of students. The theater helps students to perceive art, develop creative abilities, improve communication, and get acquainted with the traditions of different nations.
After the performance, the advisors organized a discussion of the play, and the students shared their impressions and reflections on what they had seen. It was unanimously decided to visit other national theaters.
Thus, visiting the Russian Drama Theater has become not only an aesthetic, but also an educational experience for students, enriching them culturally and intellectually, developing their intercultural awareness.
