The Use of Genetic Tools in Combating Hunger" (SDG 1 – No Poverty)

On March 10, 2025, at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, an open educational event was organized within the framework of the scientific and pedagogical practice of first-year doctoral students K.S. Adilbayeva and B.K. Kamenov from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. The event was dedicated to the topic: "The Use of Genetic Tools in Combating Hunger" (SDG 1 – No Poverty).
3-year students of the "Genetics" program actively participated in the event, showing great interest in this pressing issue. The main goal of the educational event was to raise awareness about hunger and explore the use of genetic tools as a solution to this problem.
During the event, students:
🔹 Discussed modern genetic engineering techniques and the development of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), including plants, animals, and microorganisms.
🔹 Examined the advantages and disadvantages of genetic methods.
🔹 Exchanged views on measures to minimize the impact of GMOs on the environment and human health.
🔹 Key outcomes of the event:
✅ Students gained new knowledge about genetic engineering methods.
✅ They analyzed the potential risks of GMOs and ways to mitigate them.
Such events enhance students' ecological and scientific literacy, encouraging them to seek innovative solutions to global hunger. The department continues to support initiatives that promote environmental responsibility and sustainable development thinking among young scientists.
