SDG 4 – Quality Education: Al-Farabi’s aphorisms

On April 4th, the 2nd-year students of the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held an open class titled «Sayings of Al-Farabi» as part of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 – Quality Education.On this day, the biography of the scholar Al-Farabi was presented, and his wise sayings were thoroughly analyzed and discussed.
During the open class dedicated to the theme «Sayings of Al-Farabi», students were introduced to the values of ancient wisdom and philosophical perspectives of the great thinker. Through his life and work, the importance of knowledge and morality was highlighted. At the beginning of the lesson, the instructor explained the topic and objectives of the class, briefly outlining Al-Farabi’s biography and his contributions to the field of philosophy. In the introductory part, students were asked the question: «Why should we pay attention to the words of ancient sages?»—emphasizing the relevance of Al-Farabi’s sayings in addressing today’s challenges.
