Faculty Members of the Faculty of Physics and Technology Took Part in an Online Meeting on the SCO Pilot Competition: Contribution to International Scientific Cooperation and Sustainable Development. SDG 4 and SDG 17

Faculty members of the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University participated in an online meeting dedicated to the launch of the pilot call for multilateral scientific research and innovation projects within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The meeting was organized by the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan in accordance with the decision of the Eighth Meeting of Heads of Ministries and Agencies for Science and Technology of SCO Member States, held on June 19, 2024.

During the online session, participants discussed the conditions for participation, selection criteria, and multilateral funding mechanisms, under which each participating country (Kazakhstan, Belarus, Russia, China, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan) finances its portion of the joint project. Project implementation is scheduled for 2026–2028.

Faculty members expressed strong interest in cooperation on the following priority areas:

  • energy and renewable energy sources;

  • nuclear and fusion technologies;

  • nanomaterials and environmentally friendly technologies;

  • complex systems physics and AI in technical applications.

Participation of the faculty in this meeting contributed to the advancement of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 17 – Strengthen global partnerships for sustainable development;

  • SDG 4 – Ensure inclusive and quality education and promote the development of scientific personnel.

The Faculty of Physics and Technology continues to actively promote international scientific cooperation, expanding its engagement in multilateral initiatives and reinforcing the university’s presence in global scientific platforms, including SCO and Horizon Europe.
