Extended Meeting of the Academic Council of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences
On July 3, 2025, an extended meeting of the Academic Council of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was held in room BAZ-3. The meeting focused on summarizing the results of the 2024-2025 academic year, analyzing the current state of the faculty, and identifying priority areas for further development.
The Dean of the Faculty, Candidate of Geographical Sciences and Associate Professor A.S. Aktymbayeva, delivered a report on the key issues discussed at the University Academic Council meeting, as well as the measures being taken to implement the adopted decisions. Particular attention was paid to strategic tasks related to improving the quality of education, advancing scientific research, and strengthening international cooperation.
A detailed report summarizing the results of the 2024-2025 academic year was presented. The performance of the teaching staff, achievements in education and research, and existing challenges requiring integrated solutions were reviewed. Discussions included ways to improve academic performance, increase student motivation, and implement innovative teaching methods and technologies.
Special emphasis was placed on the results of international university rankings – QS and THE – in which Al-Farabi KazNU continues to hold high positions. An in-depth analysis was conducted on the trends in the university’s and faculty’s ranking positions, highlighting both areas of progress and those with declining indicators. A comparative assessment with strong and weak universities in the region and globally allowed for a more objective evaluation of the faculty's position in the international academic landscape.
The results of indicative performance indicators, used to assess the faculty's activity within the university framework, were also presented. These included evaluations of: academic and methodological work, socio-educational engagement, and scientific research performance.
A comparative analysis of the faculty's performance relative to other university departments was shared, identifying both strengths and areas for improvement.
A separate presentation was delivered by Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Professor A. Koshim, who assessed the quality of the Teaching and Methodological Complex (TMC) for the spring semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. The report analyzed the structure, content, and alignment of TMC with modern educational standards and provided recommendations for further enhancement.
At the end of the meeting, members of the Academic Council reaffirmed their commitment to the continuous improvement of educational, research, and social activities at the faculty. Specific steps were outlined to strengthen the faculty’s position in both the national and international academic arenas.
