“Orientation Week for Doctoral Students” has started at al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU)

“Orientation Week for Doctoral Students” has started at al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), bringing together over 100 first-year PhD students in the malachite hall of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology.
The event marked an important stage in the integration of young researchers into the academic and scientific life of the university. Doctoral students met with deputy deans for research from their respective faculties and the head of the Scientific Staff Training and Certification Department (UPANK), gained access to key organizational and methodological materials, and learned about opportunities for international cooperation and academic mobility.
Speakers on the first day:
-
Laura Aibolovna Kuanova, Head of the Scientific Staff Training and Certification Department — with a report titled “On the Process of Doctoral Training at al-Farabi KazNU”;
-
Svetlana Leonidovna Peshaya, Associate Professor, PhD, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology — with a presentation titled “KazNU Doctoral Studies: Key Documents, International Opportunities, and Academic Mobility.”
Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The topics discussed are directly related to the United Nations’ global sustainable development agenda:
-
SDG 4 “Quality Education” — KazNU’s doctoral program ensures a high level of scientific personnel training, development of academic mobility, and access to international educational programs.
-
SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals” — international projects, academic exchanges, and participation in global research consortia strengthen KazNU’s role as an active partner in the global scientific and educational space.
The Orientation Week for KazNU doctoral students is not only an important step in entering the scientific community but also a symbol of continuity of the university’s academic traditions. The initiated cycle of events demonstrates KazNU’s commitment to strengthening its position in the international educational and research arena, as well as to fulfilling the objectives within the SDGs framework. Ahead, doctoral students await new meetings, lectures, and trainings that will help them build a solid foundation for a successful research and professional career.
