Doctoral Seminar: "Methods of Searching, Selecting, and Systematizing Scientific Sources"

8 october, 2025

On October 8, 2025, the Department of Civil Law, Civil Procedure, and Labor Law held a scientific seminar for doctoral students on the topic: "Methods of Searching, Selecting, and Systematizing Scientific Sources: Towards Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)."

The seminar brought together doctoral students and young faculty members of the department. It was organized as part of the educational support for doctoral studies and the development of a research culture focused on quality, openness, and relevance of scientific work. The speaker was first-year doctoral student Akku Muxsinova. The seminar and discussion were moderated by Dr. Saule Zhusupbekovna Suleimenova, Doctor of Law, Professor of the Department of Civil Law, Civil Procedure, and Labor Law.

The participants discussed topics such as searching for scientific information in international databases like Scopus, Web of Science, and eLibrary; criteria for selecting and evaluating the quality of scientific publications; systematization of sources; preparing a literature review; and using the UN Sustainable Development Goals as an analytical framework for research.

Special attention was given to the connection between modern scientific research and the global agenda — the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants analyzed how their dissertation projects could align with areas such as:

  • Quality Education (SDG 4)
  • Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9)
  • Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11)
  • Climate Action (SDG 13)

The seminar was conducted in an interactive format, which included a practical assignment, group discussions, case analysis, and a review of common mistakes in working with sources.

We are confident that the knowledge and tools gained during the seminar will assist participants in preparing high-quality, well-founded, and impactful scientific research.
