As part of SDG-15, an educational field trip was conducted on the theme “Protecting and restoring terrestrial ecosystems; promoting their sustainable use; sustainable forest management; combating desertification; halting and reversing land degradation; and preventing biodiversity loss.”

On October 4, 2025, the Department of Botany and Agroecology of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology organized an educational field trip to the “Gulstan” eco-farm within the framework of SDG-15 (“A vivid example of the rational use of land resources”). The excursion was held under the organizational leadership of Cand. Sci. (Biol.), Professor Saltanat Tulepbekovna Nazarbekova.
Topic: “Conservation and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems, their sustainable use, sustainable forest management, combating desertification, halting and reversing land degradation, and preventing biodiversity loss.”
The Gulstan Ecofarm is a vivid example of the rational use of land resources. The trip provided a clear opportunity to observe how the principles of landscape design are implemented in real conditions: the area is thoughtfully zoned, and plants are selected considering their biological characteristics and interaction with the environment.
Special attention on the farm is given to irrigation systems and soil fertility preservation, demonstrating a sustainable approach to agriculture. Here, the landscape is not just decoration but a living, functional ecosystem where every element matters.
It is important to note that our university offers a master’s program in “Landscape Design», aimed at training specialists capable of combining science, aesthetics, and ecology in practical work. Such field trips allow students to see real examples of sustainable design and inspire them to develop their own ideas in this field.
The Gulstan Ecofarm once again proved that landscape design is not merely about beautifying the territory but about a deep understanding of nature and a responsible attitude toward it.
