Recently, a special event took place at the Faculty of Journalism of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. As part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the “KHABAR” agency, Dastanbek Mursalim, a news anchor, TV host, and journalist of the “24KZ” channel, held a masterclass. Using concrete examples, he engaged the audience on creative journalism, creative thinking, and delivering information clearly and effectively.
The goal of the masterclass was to provide future journalists with professional guidance and open pathways to improving broadcast culture and speaking skills. The meeting took place in a relaxed, warm atmosphere and inspired the students.
In his speech, Dastanbek Mursalim openly shared how he entered the field of journalism, his first steps, as well as the difficulties and achievements along his professional journey. He recounted impactful stories from the moment he chose to become a journalist to his first appearances on air.
“Being a journalist is not just a profession, it’s a way of life. Every word you say and every action you take on air reflects your respect for your profession. The greatest secret to being memorable is sincerity and clear speech,” he emphasized in his address to the students. The anchor explained the importance of speech culture, voice control, diction, emotion management, and the ability to coordinate time and thought precisely. He also shared concrete examples of preparation before going on air, engaging with the audience, and proper conduct on camera.
During the event, students asked questions that interested them and received in-depth insights into the specifics of news presenting on a modern TV channel and the responsibilities involved in broadcasting.
One of the highlights of the event was a short poetry segment. Dastanbek Mursalim recited heartfelt poems, demonstrating the spiritual connection between the art of words and journalism. His moving readings inspired the students, creating a special and wonderful atmosphere in the hall.
At the end of the meeting, students expressed their gratitude to the guest and noted that the masterclass was highly beneficial professionally. “Such meetings give us the opportunity to connect theory with real life and feel the spirit of true journalism,” said the participating students.
The event concluded with warm applause.
