SDG №17. Expanding International Cooperation in Scientific and Educational Computer Networks

In line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 17: Partnership for the Goals and the educational program Archival Studies and Documentation at Al-Farabi KazNU, the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies contributes to strengthening international ties.

A significant meeting aimed at establishing business cooperation between the Association of Users of the Scientific and Educational Computer Network of Kazakhstan "KazRENA" and the Spanish National Academic and Research Network (RedIRIS) took place on October 06, 2025, in Madrid.

  • Attendees: Director General of "KazRENA", Professor, D.Sc.Tech. Boris Alikenovich Zhaparov (who is also a Professor at the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies, KazNU) and the Director of the public corporation Red.es, Mr. Francisco Javier García Viera.

  • Outcome: Both sides expressed interest in establishing close contacts and participating in joint projects in the field of scientific and educational networks.

About RedIRIS: RedIRIS is one of Europe's largest Scientific and Educational Computer Networks (NREN). It serves over 500 institutions, is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, and is included in the map of Unique Scientific and Technical Facilities (ICTS).

Key services include: High-capacity optical transport network (RedIRIS-NOVA up to 100 Gbps and above), Identity Federation Service (SIR / SIR2), technical support, and participation in major international projects like GÉANT.
