Meeting with Freedom Finance Insurance Representatives: Employment, Scholarships, and Educational Partnership

A productive meeting took place in the Red Hall of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University between students of the Actuarial Mathematics (6B05401) program and representatives of the leading insurance company Freedom Finance Insurance.
The event was organized by the Department of Computational Sciences and Statistics.
The goal of the meeting was to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, deepen actuarial knowledge through practical cases, and expand students’ career opportunities.
Speakers:
- Azamat Rashiduly Kerimbayev, PhD — Chairman of the Board, JSC “Freedom Finance Insurance”.
- Aizhan Sembekkyzy Shukatayeva — Director of the Actuarial Calculations Department, MSc in Actuarial Science (London, Cass Business School); Company License: No.37, June 16, 2006.
- Zhanat Ismetullakyzy Romanova — Director of the Data Analytics Department.
Meeting Highlights
The speakers discussed current trends in the insurance market, risk modeling, and the industrial applications of actuarial calculations. Market and regulation: data-based evaluation of insurance products, compliance with Solvency requirements, underwriting culture. Data and analytics: data-driven decision-making, predictive models, quality control metrics, loss ratio stabilization, portfolio diversification, and practical examples from life/non-life insurance. Students and postgraduates received detailed information about career tracks, internship programs, and required technical skills.
Key outcomes and agreements
- Employment: the company confirmed its readiness to hire students of the Actuarial Mathematics program.
- Scholarships: special scholarships are planned for top-performing bachelor’s students.
- Educational format: company experts will deliver thematic lectures and practical sessions.
- Industrial cases: real corporate data will be used for coursework and diploma projects.
The meeting helped students:
- gain applied understanding of actuarial modeling, probabilistic and statistical methods, and life/non-life product valuation;
- identify a skills roadmap (Excel/VBA, Python (NumPy/Pandas), R, actuarial tables);
- learn how to build a professional portfolio for internships and entry-level positions (CVs, projects, technical tests).
From the university’s side, this event was recognized as an important step toward strengthening the bridge between academia and industry and aligning educational content with labor market demands. Joint initiatives will contribute to students’ professional growth and to the development of the regional insurance ecosystem.
