In the large hall of the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty named after O.A. Zholdasbekov, a meeting was held with first-year students of the faculty on the topic of suicide prevention, which is often discussed in the media.
The meeting was attended by specialists from the Psychological Support Service of the Department of Social and Educational Work of our university — Turlykhozha Temirlan Beketuly and Sailauov Aset Tolegenuly. Curators-advisors who were excused from classes also participated.
Over time, the psychology of young people has also undergone changes. It is clear that such factors as family problems, social difficulties, interpersonal relationships, and personal issues can influence adolescents’ decisions to take their own lives.
During the meeting, the main causes that push young people toward suicide were identified: physical and psychological abuse, lack of parental support, indifference and misunderstanding from friends. In addition, one of the major problems noted recently was students’ dependence on computers and the Internet, which have become their primary means of obtaining knowledge.
The invited psychologists provided comprehensive answers to the students’ questions and encouraged them to take an active part in upcoming training sessions.
