The debates on the topic “Gender Equality”

11 november, 2025

On November 11, 2025,  a debate on the topic “Gender Equality”  was held within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the  first-year students majoring in Meteorology. The event aimed at  developing students’ understanding of the principles of gender equality, fostering critical thinking, and enhancing their argumentation and public speaking skills. During the debate, the  students discussed the importance of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for men and women in all spheres of life, including education, employment, science, and public activity. The participants were divided into two teams: the first team defended the position that modern society has achieved significant progress in matters of gender equality, while the second team argued that gender stereotypes and inequality still persist and require active measures from both the state and society. Each team presented an opening statement, arguments, and counterarguments, providing examples from international practice, statistical data, and the results of scientific research. The debates were held in an engaging and meaningful manner, with students actively exchanging opinions, demonstrating tolerance, and showing respect for opposing viewpoints. Based on the results of the discussion, the jury noted the high level of preparation of the participants, their awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals, and their ability to analyze social issues. The winning team was the one that convincingly argued that despite the progress achieved, the problem of gender inequality remains relevant and requires systematic solutions. The debate contributed to fostering students’ respectful attitude toward the principles of equality, increasing their awareness of the importance of gender balance in society, and strengthening their interest in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The event demonstrated that young people show a high level of social responsibility and a willingness to engage in discussions of pressing issues of the modern world.
