High-quality training of hydrologists for the scientific and educational sphere of higher educational institutions, organizations, enterprises capable of independently carrying out design work and scientific research to offer ideas, innovations in the field of hydrology and water resources.
ON1. Provide recommendations and expert opinions on the development of educational and research projects in the field of water resources management and assessment;
ON2. Create scientific texts in Kazakh, Russian, English for the analysis of scientific information based on incomplete or limited hydrological information;
ON3. To assess the state of water resources, the regime and quality of waters of natural and artificial reservoirs with an assessment of their potential as a source of water supply and branches of water management;
ON4. Conduct teaching activities in the disciplines of hydrology and Earth sciences for the qualitative training of highly qualified specialists;
ON5. Apply modern digital technologies to use effective planning of measures for the formation of surface runoff in the near and long term;
ON6. To make hydrometeorological forecasts based on natural, processed databases, in order to ensure environmental safety and analysis of scientific research;
ON7. Develop and implement preventive measures to reduce the danger of mountain slopes, high-altitude, moraine and glacial lakes to assess the potential danger of areas prone to mudslides, avalanches and landslides;
ON8. To make decisions at all levels of the water resources management system in accordance with international and state regulatory documents for the conservation and rational use of water resources;
ON9. Assess the hydrological problems of soil moisture and reclamation lands to ensure optimal use of water and land resources with changes in the hydrological regime, quantity and quality of water resources;
ON10. Apply appropriate mathematical and numerical methods to the modeling of hydrological processes using modern software products for statistical processing of hydrological information;
ON11. To use theories, methods of constructive hydrology and managerial skills in the field of rational use and protection of water resources for the management of natural waters in the interests of the population, ecology, production and research;
ON12. To apply the main views of psychology, personality in managerial interactions, modern ideas about the management of values in a team when carrying out scientific activities in a certain direction in educational and research activities.

The department forms the personnel potential of competitive masters in hydrology, corresponding to modern intellectual requirements and the development strategy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, meeting world standards. As a result, the percentage of employment of KazNU graduates is 100%.
