At the Faculty of Pre-University Education of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Department of Language Training for Foreign Students has been successfully operating for more than a quarter of a century.
All necessary conditions have been created here for effective instruction of international students in the Russian and Kazakh languages.
The department employs highly qualified teachers who preserve, develop, and enhance the invaluable scientific and methodological experience accumulated over 29 years. During this period, numerous учебные пособия and teaching materials for instructing foreign students in languages have been developed.
ADMISSION RULES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

📌 STEP 1. REGISTRATION
You may choose online or offline registration for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs.
Registration is available throughout the year.

🎓 Educational grants are provided by the Ministry of Education.
Admissions to MBA, EMBA, and DBA programs of Farabi Business School are conducted separately — until May 31.
📌 STEP 2. COMPLETING THE APPLICATION FORM AND SUBMITTING DOCUMENTS
Online registration
Fill out the application form on the university website and upload the following documents:

- copy of passport;
- copy of diploma (with apostille);
- diploma transcript;
- selected specialty;
- copy of IELTS or TOEFL certificate (if available — for Master’s and PhD programs);
- completed application form
(download in advance, complete according to the sample, and attach during online registration).

For citizens of CHINA, apostille certification must be completed in their home country.

Admission of international applicants to Al-Farabi KazNU
for the “Healthcare” program taught in English (grant / fee-paying basis)
is conducted based on an interview and only if one of the following valid certificates is provided:

- IELTS Academic — minimum 5.0
- TOEFL iBT — minimum 35
- TOEFL ITP — minimum 417
- TOEIC — minimum 550
- Duolingo English Test — minimum 80
❗ Possession of one of these certificates is mandatory to be admitted to the interview.

📌 STEP 3. TESTING / INTERVIEW
After submitting the documents, a university representative contacts the applicant and schedules the date of testing or interview.

oral interview.

📌 STEP 4. SIGNING THE CONTRACT AND PAYMENT
The contract with the university is concluded for the full period of study.
After signing the contract, a 100% payment for one academic year is required.
💳 Payment options:

- in Kazakhstani tenge through local banks;
- in US dollars via SWIFT.
⏱ Payment must be made within 5 days after signing the contract.
After payment, an enrollment order is issued.
📌 STEP 5. STUDENT VISA PROCESSING
Processing of a student visa and submission of documents after arrival in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
OBTAINING AN INVITATION LETTER AND A STUDENT VISA
After the enrollment order is issued
After the enrollment order is issued, applicants must submit documents to obtain an invitation letter for a student visa valid for up to one year.
Documents required to obtain an invitation for a student visa

- enrollment order number issued by the university;
- copy of a passport valid for at least 2 years;
- copy of the Contract for the provision of educational services to foreign citizens;
- receipt confirming payment of the state duty
(0.5 MCI) in accordance with the
Tax Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan
dated December 25, 2017
“On Taxes and Other Mandatory Payments to the Budget”; - completed visa application form of the установленного format
(Application form (ENG, RUS) 2024.docx); - The processing period for a student visa is at least
14 working days after submission of a complete set of documents.
Upon completion, the visa will be sent to the email address
indicated in the application; - After receiving the invitation letter from the university,
the applicant must contact the
Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan
in their country of citizenship.
ACTIONS AFTER ARRIVAL IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN
Registration
Within 2 (two) days from the date of entry into the Republic of Kazakhstan,
foreign students must personally visit the
Department of Internationalization and Recruitment at the following address:

For registration and submission to the visa office, the following documents are required:

- copy of passport;
- copy of visa;
- copy of the border entry stamp.
DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED AFTER ARRIVAL

- fluorography image (mandatory upon arrival in Kazakhstan);
- certificate confirming absence of HIV infection;

📌 In accordance with Article 31 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan
“On Population Migration”, international students are required to:

- provide a medical certificate confirming the absence of diseases
that prevent study; - have a valid medical insurance policy.

MANDATORY MEDICAL EXAMINATION
International students are required to undergo a medical examination
for diseases that prohibit entry into the Republic of Kazakhstan
(Order of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan
dated September 30, 2011 No. 664):
-
- drug addiction;
- mental disorders (diseases);
- tuberculosis (open form);
- leprosy (Hansen’s disease);
- sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including:
syphilis, venereal lymphogranuloma, donovanosis, chancroid; - HIV infection
(if provided for by international agreements); - other diseases stipulated by regulatory legal acts
governing sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population.
🏥 Medical examinations are conducted
in authorized medical institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan
within the established timeframes.
ADDITIONAL MANDATORY STEPS

- Obtain an Individual Identification Number (IIN)
at the Public Service Center (PSC) of Almaty; - Submit an application for nostrification
(recognition) of educational documents

Admission Procedure for International Citizens
International citizens are admitted to the fee-paying department throughout the calendar year:
based on the results of entrance examinations;
as well as if they have certificates of international standardized tests:
- SAT
- ACT
- IB
- A Level
- TOEFL ITP
- TOEFL iBT
- TOEFL PBT
- IELTS
Admission is carried out according to the credit conversion scale specified in Appendix 2-1 to the “Model Rules for Admission to Education in Organizations Implementing Higher Education Programs”, approved by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 600 dated October 31, 2018.
Note for Applicants to the Faculty of Medicine
(for citizens of the Republic of India)
For citizens of the Republic of India, a mandatory condition for admission to the university is the submission of a NEET certificate
(National Eligibility cum Entrance Test).
Minimum threshold scores:

134 points — for General Category (GC) candidates

107 points — for SC / ST / OBC category candidates
Applicants without a NEET certificate are not allowed to enroll in the Faculty of Medicine.

Instruction is conducted in three languages:

Application Conditions
1. Online Registration
Applicants must complete the online form within the specified deadlines and obtain an applicant number on the official University website:

When filling out the online application, the following requirements must be observed:

The applicant is fully responsible for the accuracy and correctness of the information provided.

Passport data must be entered exactly as in the passport, without changes or abbreviations.

The email address provided must belong to the applicant.

Each applicant may use only one email address. Using one email for correspondence on behalf of other applicants is not allowed.

The email address will be used as the login (username) for subsequent authorization.
The applicant’s photograph must be uploaded to the online form.
Photo requirements:

taken within the last 6 months.
The photograph is used on the exam entry document and in the exam results certificate.
After successful completion and registration of the online form, the applicant number will be sent to the provided email address.
2. Applicant Number
The applicant number is issued only once.
This number is used:

when taking entrance exams;

in all electronic procedures of the applicant at the University.
The applicant number must be saved and indicated in all correspondence with the University.
Applications without an applicant number will not be considered.

The university operates language training centers located in different districts of the city.
Instruction is conducted in Kazakh and Russian; therefore, preliminary language courses are recommended.
Kazakh and Russian language courses are available at the Faculty of Pre-University Education.
Some faculties and programs offer instruction in English.
🏛 Mode of Study
All faculties offer full-time (on-campus) study programs.
