DEPARTMENTS
Kazakh State University (KazGU) was opened on January 15, 1934. On January 19, 1934, 54 students started classes in the building of the former Vernenskaya Gymnasium (Kazybek bi str., 18, former Soviet), including 32 student of physics and mathematics and 22 biology faculties.

The Department of Information and Communications of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University provides information support to promote the activities of the higher educational institution, covers events and foreign trips in the media with the participation of the Chairman of the Board-Rector.
The Department organizes meetings, press conferences, interviews and briefings of the Chairman of the Board-Rector with media representatives.
- Carries out professional and high-quality photo and video shooting of the Chairman of the Board-Rector and events with his participation.
- Prepares, edits, and publishes information materials on the official website of the University.
- Provides the public with information about innovative projects of scientists, achievements of the university and many others.
The Department consists of 4 divisions and 1 sector.
1. The Press Service distributes information about campus life in Kazakh, Russian and English, covers high-level events in the media on the website www.Farabi University.kz. It coordinates the work of accredited journalists at events with the participation of the Chairman of the Board-Rector.
The Sector of Information and Monitoring within the Department carries out daily monitoring of the media and the participation of experts-scientists and speakers of KazNU in various TV programs. In case of identification of information in the media space that leads to a negative opinion of the company, promptly reports to the first head, the Sector also responsible for answering official questions from media representatives.
2. FARABI MEDIA
A creative TV studio provides events with professional and high-quality photo and video shooting, prepares reports, documentaries and special programs.
In particular: "Oytalki", "Innovative Projects of KazNU", "Leadership Lectures" that includes lectures by foreign professors and teaching staff, "Main Events of the Week" and other programs.
3. Division of the Farabi University’s website
The Department places information materials, printed, audio, photo and video products on the official website of Farabi University and pages on social networks, processes the information provided by the teaching staff.
In 2023, large-scale work was carried out to transform the university's website into an information Smart platform.
The main advantages of the new website platform:
- online tuition fee payment;
- filter that allows to select educational programs;
- the main indicators of the university are automatically updated on the main page;
- a number of online services have been introduced;
- modern design.
4. The newspaper "QAZAQ UNIVERSITETI"
"Qazaq universiteti" is the original edition of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The weekly began to be published on April 20, 1948. In January 2022, it received the status of a republican publication. The circulation is up to 2000 copies. In the newspaper you can read interesting interviews, get acquainted with pages for students and scientific articles.
The main direction of the newspaper is to acquaint readers with important news of the university and the country. Articles are prepared in Kazakh, Russian and English. The newspaper "Qazaq University" has been distributed throughout the republic since January 2022. You can subscribe to the newspaper through the QR-application of the Halyk Bank. Currently, the indicative score of academics’ articles published in the newspaper "Qazaq University" has been increased.
Newspaper headlines are the following: "Innovations", "Integration of Education", "Leadership Lecture", "Kemel", "My University", "Student Mirror", "Health", "Tips for applicants", etc.
The Department carries out its activities in accordance with the Charter of the University and this Regulation. The Department actively searches for highly qualified personnel (including foreign specialists, specialists with work experience abroad, graduates of the Bolashak program). Provides consultations on employment issues and familiarizes candidates with the internal regulations and job descriptions. Forms the staff of the teaching staff according to the qualification requirements, staffing the required professions, specialties and qualifications in accordance with the Labor Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Conducts attestations of university employees, analysis of the results of attestation. Conducts competitions for filling vacant positions of teaching staff and researchers of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University according to the requirements.
The Department consists of the HR Department.
HR management includes the following tasks:
- defines the criteria for the search and selection of personnel;
- participates in improving the level of professional knowledge, skills and abilities of employees of the organization in accordance with the goals and strategy of the organization, personnel policy;
- organizes the certification of employees, its methodological and informational support, participates in the analysis of the results of certification, the development of measures to implement the decisions of the certification commissions, determines the range of specialists subject to re-examination;
- studies the causes of staff turnover, participates in the development of measures to reduce it;
- monitors compliance with social guarantees of employees of the organization;
- keeps records of the personnel of the organization and its divisions in accordance with the unified forms of primary accounting documentation.
- organizes timely reception, transfer and dismissal of employees in accordance with labor legislation, legal regulations and orders, as well as other established personnel documentation;
- formation and maintenance of personal files of employees, making changes in them related to work;
- preparation of necessary materials for qualification, certification, competition commissions;
- filling out, accounting and storage of workbooks;
- calculation of work experience, issuance of certificates on the present and past work activities of employees;
- accounting for the provision of vacations to employees, control over the preparation and observance of vacation schedules;
- preparation of documents after the expiration of the established terms of current storage for storage in the archive.

- Determines the strategic priorities for the development of the educational activities of the University and ensures the integration of education, science and innovation.
- Coordinates the activities of faculties (schools) and structural divisions for the development and implementation of the academic policy of the University.

The activities of the Department of Academic Affairs are carried out in accordance with the basic principles of the Bologna reforms and the development of the main advantages of the credit system of education.
STUDENT OFFICE
The student's office is a structural subdivision of the Kazakh National University. al-Farabi (hereinafter referred to as the University) and operates in accordance with the Charter of the University and these Regulations of the student's office and reports to the Board Member-Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.
ABOUT US
- Preparation of orders for the composition of students (expulsion, transfers, restoration, academic leave, business trips abroad);
- Acceptance of personal files of the 1st year from the university admissions office, assign numbers to personal files and register in journals, store in the archive of the office;
- Keep records and control the movement of the contingent of students of the University, the formation of administrative and statistical reports, including in the form 3-NK, 1-NK;
- Preparation and issuance of archival certificates, duplicate diplomas and supplements to them to replace the lost ones;
- Preparation and sending of documents of applicants for transfer from a contractual basis to vacant educational grants in the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- Registration and sending of personal files of students transferred / restored to other OVPO;
- Preparing and sending requests for the personal files of students transferred from other OVPOs;
- Entering data of students into the “ Univer ” system, transferred from other educational institutions;
- Work and reconciliation of data in the sections "Contingent", "Graduate", "Retired" in the NOBD system;
- Processing of applications of service recipients in the systems "Automation of public services of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan";
- Verification of attached documents and processing of student applications in section e - services in the " Univer " system;
- Preparation and issuance to students of copies of original documents stored in the personal files of students, on the basis of personal statements or by proxy;
- Registration of orders for the composition of students;
- Preparation and transfer of orders for storage in the university archive.

The Office of the Organization of the Educational Process is a structural subdivision of the Department of Academic Affairs of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University , which operates in accordance with the norms of the current legislation in the field of education and science.

General Tasks
- Determines the priority directions for the development of the educational activities of the University in the field of open and distance education.
- Organizes the introduction of academic and digital innovations into the educational process in order to increase the efficiency of the learning process in accordance with the rules for organizing training using DOT at the University.
- Develops online platforms for open and distance education of the University.
- Provides on a reimbursable basis for external organizations consulting services, training services and other services related to the introduction of academic and digital innovations in the educational process.

- Implements professional development programs for various categories of employees, scientific and pedagogical personnel, students of external organizations, enterprises, institutions and individuals on the use of innovative educational technologies with the issuance of appropriate certificates.
The Department of IT-Infrastructure Development Support of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was founded in 1963.
The activities of the IT-Infrastructure Development Department are aimed at implementing the University's Informatization Development Strategy, such as: development of a unified network infrastructure, introduction of the latest information technologies into the educational process, automation of financial and economic activities and document management of the university.
One of the main activities of the IT-Infrastructure Development Department is the formation of a modern integrated information system of the University, the organization of the university's representation in the Internet information space, the provision of modern electronic services for teachers and students. Today, the IT- Infrastructure Development Department employs the best IT specialists, young and creative individuals who create advanced application software products and management mechanisms for the IT infrastructure of the university.

- Department of Data Analysis and Processing – is engaged in the development and development of the information and analytical system of the university. The purpose of the Data Analysis and Processing Department was to study the issue of data management in the higher education system as a modern trend in the development of digitalization processes, the development of management documents, to form a culture of data management and maximize their use in improving the management activities of the university and improving the quality of education.
- IT Infrastructure Development Department – solves the tasks of maintaining the university's IT infrastructure, which include planning the development and modernization of network and server infrastructure, providing computer equipment to university departments, administration of network and server resources, system and technical support of computer equipment, video surveillance and access control systems.
- Management for the development of information business logic – is engaged in the development, implementation and maintenance of information systems and resources of the unified corporate information system of the university. Allows you to solve problems related to the design, development, testing and implementation of the developed software.
Department of International Cooperation and Internationalization of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University ensures the promotion of the international reputation of the university at the world level.
Department consists of two Offices and one Center.
Global Partnership Office performs the following functions:
-establishment of cooperation between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and foreign universities, international organizations, associations, embassies and consulates of foreign states, international foundations, ministries and departments;
-conducting of business negotiations with foreign partners within the framework of international projects and programs of the university;
-organization of reception of delegations of organizations from across the world (preparation of programs and documents);
-coordination of the work of the faculties and other structural units of the university on the organization of international cooperation and external relations;
-coordination of the faculties' activities in the field of development of cooperation with partner universities for the joint implementation of research projects and / or grants within the framework of international organizations.
Office of International Mobility and Programs provides the following services:
-ensuring the participation of university staff and students in international educational grants, programs and projects, such as Erasmus+, Newton al-Farabi, Fulbright, DAAD;
-activity aimed at increasing the share of the foreign contingent by holding various events, such as information sessions, summer schools, exhibitions, etc. within the framework of academic mobility;
-preparation of documents for foreign students to study at the university within the framework of academic mobility;
-preparation of projects and contracts with foreign universities, centers, foundations, associations within the framework of international grant programs;
-involvement of teachers and researchers of universities to participation in international and scientific projects.
Visa Support Center provides the following services to foreign citizens:
-visa support and registration services for students, teachers, researchers, and members of foreign delegations arriving at the university for a scientific internship, lectures and training within the framework of academic mobility.
The purpose of the Research and Innovation Activity Department is to contribute to most efficient use of the scientific and intellectual potential of al-Farabi KazNU, as well as to the complex development of scientific-research and scientific-industrial activities for increase of efficiency of Scientific Research and Development Works’ results and training quality, organization of innovative activities, realization of educational programs and strengthening of the international cooperation of scientists and experts.
The Department includes research divisions of the University and its faculties: scientific research institutes, Scientific Centers, Scientific-Technological Park, National Nanolaboratory etc., the Research Activity Division, Innovative Activity Division and Certification of the Scientific Staff Division.
The head collegial governing body of the Department is the Scientific and Technical Council on Scientific Research Activity (STS on SRA), acting on the basis of Regulations on Coordination Council on SRA.

Office of Training and Certification of Research Personnel
Office of Training and Certification of Research Personnel aim to provide activities for the training and certification of highly qualified research personnel (Master’s and PhD students, postdocs) for the effective reproduction, generation, development of intellectual potential and human resources for research and innovation development in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The main tasks of the Office are coordination, monitoring and analysis of the training and certification of highly qualified researchers.
Office of Innovation and Intellectual Property
The Office of Innovation and Intellectual Property coordinates the scientific research and development works, pilot productions, student design bureaus carried out at the university and unites all research departments of the university, research institutes, scientific centers and technopark in matters of innovation.
The purpose of the Office of Innovation and Intellectual Property is to contribute to most efficient use of the scientific and intellectual potential of al-Farabi KazNU, as well as to the complex development of scientific-research and scientific-industrial activities for increase of efficiency of Scientific Research and Development Works’ results and training quality, organization of innovative activities, realization of educational programs and strengthening of the international cooperation of scientists and experts.
Office of Science and Publication Activity
Increasing the status and recognition of the university in the scientific and professional community by ensuring an increase in the publication activity of the teaching staff, young scientists of the university, the inclusion of journals in the list of publications recommended by the Committee for Control in Education and Science, the promotion of peer-reviewed scientific journals of KazNU and English-language editions and their Indexing in the scientific repositories and bibliographic systems.
Ethical Committee
The Ethical Committee reviews and evaluates research protocols, information for a participant and a form of informed consent, professional experience of researchers, research centers, and other documents in relation to human rights, principles of fairness, usefulness, confidentiality and absence of harm for participants.
The Department of Social Development and Work with Youth is a structural subdivision of NJSC "Al-Farabi Kazakh National University" operates in accordance with the Charter of the University and the Regulations on the Department.
The legal basis for the activities of the Department, its structural divisions and employees is the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Law "On Education", the Charter of the University, and other regulatory legal acts.
The Department is guided by the Development Strategy of the NJSC "Al-Farabi Kazakh National University", the Plan of the main activities for the implementation of the Strategy, documented procedures for the main processes, orders and instructions of the University, internal regulations, the Corporate Culture Code.
The main tasks of the Department are:
- Assistance in the rational use of free time, the harmonious development of the individual, the organization of cultural events;
- Expansion of the cultural horizons of students, the formation of their high moral qualities and aesthetic taste;
- Creation of conditions for realization by students of the University of their individual abilities and intellectual potential;
- Organization and coordination of the activities of the Department of Social Work of the University;
- Organization and coordination of the activities of the structural unit "Youth Organizations";
- Organization and coordination of the activities of the ART Center;
- Organization and coordination of the activities of the "Museum of KazNU";
- Cooperation with the trade union of students and undergraduates of the “Sunkar”.
The organizational structure of the Department includes: the Department of Social Work, the Sector of Social and Psychological Services, the Sector for Work with Alumni, the structural unit "Youth Organizations", the ART Center, the "Museum of KazNU", the scientific and practical Center "Inclusive Environment".
Functions of the department, its structural subdivisions.
Work with youth, social and educational work:
- providing methodological and organizational support for work with youth, social and educational work of the university;
- development of scientific and methodological recommendations, methodological manuals in the main areas of work of curators-advisers;
- development of plans for mass cultural and festive events of the university, ensuring their implementation;
- organization of work with youth, social and educational work in close contact with the faculties and structural divisions of the University;
- organizing and holding social and educational events with young people;
- preparation of responses to inquiries to higher and other organizations on issues of work with youth, educational and social work;
- attraction of University employees to participate in cultural events and organization of students' leisure;
-coordination of the work of the Centers for educational work and social activities; cathedral, faculty and university-wide clubs and circles;
-organization and holding of seminars for curators-advisers to improve the activities of the institution of curators-advisers;
- study of the interests and requests of students in the field of leisure.
Working with youth organizations includes:
- development and support of student initiative and creativity;
- development of programs, projects aimed at the development of student self-government;
- ensuring interaction with state executive bodies for the implementation of youth policy, republican and city youth organizations;
- organization of the School of student leaders (lectures, discussions, trainings, game forms, practical exercises, melodic counseling, etc.);
- creation and updating of a database on student organizations and University students who are members of city and republican youth movements.
The functions of the social work management are:
- providing methodological and organizational support for the social and educational work of the university;
- development of scientific and methodological recommendations, methodological manuals in the main areas of social and educational work of the teaching staff, curators-advisers;
- development of plans for social, cultural and festive events of the university, ensuring their implementation;
- organization of work in close contact with the faculties and structural divisions of the university;
- study of the interests and requests of students in the field of leisure;
- organizing and holding meetings, honoring war and labor veterans, meetings with famous scientists, cultural figures, round tables, thematic and creative evenings at faculties and dormitories, etc.;
- preparation of responses to inquiries to higher and other organizations on issues of social, educational work, and work with youth;
- attraction of university teaching staff to participate in activities for social and educational work and organization of students' leisure;
- assistance in organizing the event of the School of University Advisors (seminars, methodological advice, lectures, etc.);
- control of medical examination and fluorographic examination of university students;
- updating and replenishment of the data bank of employees and students belonging to the socially unprotected segments of the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- сarrying out preventive measures to prevent offenses.
The functions of the Sector for Work with Alumni are:
- creation, replenishment and use of a database of graduates, their professional interests and opportunities in cooperation with the University;
- wide dissemination of information about the Kazakh National University: traditions, history and modern development;
- assistance in the preservation and development of the best traditions of the University, including work with graduates;
- using the experience and capabilities of graduates for the implementation of educational, scientific, social, economic, industrial and other projects of the University;
- support for the initiatives of students, undergraduates, graduate students, PhD doctors, and employees aimed at strengthening the prestige of the University and its graduates;
- establishment, expansion and development of personal and business ties, creative cooperation, social and personal interaction and mutual assistance between graduates;
- preparation of information bulletins about graduates, their achievements and successes;
- creating conditions for the most complete realization of the creative potential of graduates, assisting graduates in their work to improve their professional skills within the walls of the University;
- participation in the organization and holding of meetings of graduates of the University.
The Department of Production Support carries out work based on the decisions of the Rector's Office and in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, on the current repair of buildings and structures and maintenance. Selects buildings for repairs. Conducts operational, strategic accounting of the expenditure of funds for current repairs and submits reports to the relevant authorities in due time. The Department of Capital Construction is a structural subdivision of the NAO "Al-Farabi Kazakh National University", which ensures the implementation of the University's policy in the field of construction, reconstruction and major repairs of University facilities.
The main tasks of the Department:
1) Organization of construction, reconstruction and major repairs of dormitories, academic buildings and other facilities of NAO "KazNU named after al-Farabi";
2) Ensuring timely commissioning of new facilities, as well as facilities where reconstruction and major repairs have been completed;
3) Saving funds of NAO "Al-Farabi KazNU" due to the effective use of capital investments, increasing the efficiency of the Department;
4) Control over the design and construction of new facilities of the NAO "KazNU named after al-Farabi".
