About us
The Department of Information Technology (IT Department) of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was founded in 1963 as the Laboratory of Computing Machines at the Department of Computational Mathematics of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of S.M. Kirov Kazakh State University. Over the years, it has evolved into the Educational and Computing Center, Computer Center, and later the Department of Information and Communication Technologies.
The activities of the IT Department are aimed at implementing the University’s Informatization Development Strategy, which includes developing a unified network infrastructure, integrating the latest information technologies into the educational process, and automating the university’s financial and economic activities as well as document flow.
One of the key functions of the IT Department is the formation of a modern, integrated information system for the university, organizing its representation in the digital information space, and providing modern electronic services for faculty and students.
Today, the IT Department employs highly skilled IT specialists, young and creative professionals who develop cutting-edge application software and management mechanisms for the university's IT infrastructure.
The department consists of two main divisions:
- IT Infrastructure Development Division
- Information Business Logic Development Division
IT Infrastructure Development Division – responsible for maintaining and modernizing the university's IT infrastructure. Its tasks include planning the development and upgrading of network and server infrastructure, supplying university departments with computer equipment, administering network and server resources, and providing system and technical support for computing equipment, video surveillance, and access control systems.
Information Business Logic Development Division – engaged in the development, implementation, and maintenance of information systems and resources within the university’s unified corporate information system. It focuses on designing, developing, testing, and deploying software solutions.
