Science Club Meeting Held at the Faculty of Physics and Technology. SDG 4 and SDG 9

21 november, 2025

The Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted another meeting of the Science Club, organized by the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University SPE Student Chapter.

The event took place on 21 November in Room 330 and brought together students and young researchers interested in modern methods of scientific modelling and engineering analysis.

The main speaker was Nazar Zabara. Lecture topic: “Modelling and Multiphysics: The Foundation of Modern Research and Engineering (COMSOL Multiphysics)”

During the meeting, participants explored the capabilities of COMSOL Multiphysics, a professional platform for numerical modelling of physical processes. COMSOL is widely used in physics to solve problems of heat transfer, electromagnetic fields, quantum and optical systems, materials mechanics, and multilayer structures.

For students and researchers, COMSOL Multiphysics is particularly valuable because it enables:

  • conducting numerical experiments without expensive laboratory equipment;
  • testing complex models and scenarios of real physical processes;
  • integrating multiple physical phenomena into a single multiphysics model;
  • visualizing field distributions and system parameters to simplify data analysis;
  • preparing datasets for scientific publications and research projects.

Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals

SDG 4 — Quality Education

The Science Club session promotes the integration of modern digital tools into the educational process, expanding students’ competencies and developing skills in solving scientific and engineering problems.

SDG 9 — Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Mastering COMSOL Multiphysics supports the training of specialists equipped with advanced modelling techniques required in industry, materials science, energy and applied physics.

The meeting was held in an open format and highlighted the importance of scientific clubs as platforms for knowledge exchange, academic interaction and the development of research competencies.
