The Future of Education and Media: The Dean of the Faculty of Journalism discussed key issues on the morning broadcast
SDG-4. Kanat Auesbaiuly, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, was a special guest on the morning show of Almaty TV, where he gave an interview on artificial intelligence and information security.
During the broadcast, he emphasized that the development of artificial intelligence affects not only the media sphere but also directly influences overall information security. He highlighted the importance of responsible language use on social media and personal accountability online.
The Dean noted that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s signing of the law on artificial intelligence was welcomed by the journalism community. He stated that this step accelerates the country’s digital transformation and brings new opportunities to both the education and media sectors.
According to Kanat Auesbaiuly, following the instructions of the Ministry of Education and the university’s rector, Al-Farabi KazNU is actively integrating artificial intelligence into the educational system. As a result, the first academic master’s program in “Media and Artificial Intelligence” has been launched. In addition, the university has established its first-ever Faculty of Artificial Intelligence, where students are being trained in collaboration with IT specialists.
The Dean also addressed the issue of media literacy. Currently, media literacy is taught in Kazakhstan from grades 5 to 9. Kanat Auesbaiuly is one of the authors of the corresponding textbook. He added that the university has submitted a proposal to the ministry to introduce media literacy as a full-fledged discipline at the university level.
In conclusion, the Dean emphasized the importance of preparing a new generation of specialists who can competently master both media and modern technologies.
