On December 3, within the framework of SDG 16 under the guidance of Senior Lecturer Sh.A. Shortanbay of the Department of Kazakh Literature and Literary Theory the 3rd-year students of the “Kazakh Language and Literature” held a demo discussion session on the topic: “Teaching Literary Criticism.” The main aim of the event was to develop students’ skills in providing an objective and scholarly analysis of literary works, as well as to familiarize them with the history and development of Kazakh literary criticism. The session also aimed to cultivate critical thinking, the ability to evaluate literary works, and to enhance students’ skills in writing and oral analytical summaries.

The students, in turn, conducted a comprehensive discussion of literary criticism genres. They shared their thoughts on each genre’s characteristics, methods of application, and ways to identify the artistic, philosophical, and social significance of literary works. They analyzed texts from aesthetic, social, historical, philosophical, and intercultural perspectives, providing examples and supporting their opinions with evidence. The discussion was conducted in an interactive format, using methods such as Q&A sessions, group analysis, commenting on textual excerpts, comparing authors’ concepts, and evaluating with sticky notes. During the discussion, students’ literary-theoretical preparedness, ability to comprehend texts deeply, and critical approach to genre phenomena were clearly evident.
