The second-year master’s degree students of the Faculty of Philology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University conducted a book discussion as part of their research internship under the supervision of Gulmariya Turysbekkyzy. The internship took place at the A. Baitursynuly «Til – Kural» Educational, Methodological, and Research Center.

During the practical training, and following the assignment given by Raikhan Sakhybekkyzy, the students selected Ilyas Yesenberlin’s novel «The Boat that Crossed the Ocean» for discussion. The master’s students studied the work in depth, analyzing its content, main ideas, and historical dimensions while exchanging their viewpoints in a collaborative format.

The novel is dedicated to the life and significant contributions of Dinmukhamed Kunaev to the country’s development. The author presents a vivid artistic portrayal of the public figure’s personality and his role in national history. Published after a long interval, the novel sparked great interest among the master’s students, making the discussion both engaging and insightful.

Such creative discussions not only broaden the students’ academic perspectives but also enhance their ability to deeply comprehend literary works, analyze historical data, and express well-reasoned opinions. The book discussion strengthened cultural communication among participants and helped develop their research thinking. Additionally, by engaging with works dedicated to prominent figures, young researchers gained a deeper appreciation of the contributions made by significant personalities to the country’s history and better understood national values.

These forms of practical work play an important role in strengthening the professional competence of master’s students by effectively combining theoretical knowledge with practical analysis.
