Lecture on Central Asian Music in the Context of SDG 4 and SDG 17
On 5 December 2025 In alignment with SDG 4 “Quality Education” and SDG 17 “Partnerships for Sustainable Development”, which aim to strengthen international cooperation and advance intercultural learning, a leadership lecture by Professor M.D. Shaimerdenova titled “Central Asian Music” was held at the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after T. Zhurgenov. The event was organized for foreign students participating in an academic mobility program implemented within the framework of cooperation between Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the Kazakh National Academy of Arts.
During the lecture, participants were introduced to the richness of musical traditions of Central Asian countries, the historical roots of folk instruments and genres, as well as contemporary approaches to interpreting traditional music. Students of the Faculty of Folk Instruments performed kui compositions by Kurmangazy on the dombra and zhetygen, creating a distinctive artistic atmosphere. Video materials demonstrating the evolution of traditional motifs in modern musical styles were also presented.
The lecture broadened the cultural horizons of international students, strengthened intercultural dialogue, and contributed to the development of international cooperation in education. The event made a significant contribution to promoting global sustainable development goals and enhancing collaboration between Kazakhstani and foreign educational institutions.
